The Castlegar Sun Wednesday, March 31, 1993 current compilation of the most peculiar people do, edited by Chuck Shepherd. Proof that true stories are weirder than made-up stories. The Pryor, Okla., Daily Times reported recently that autopsies on a minnow and a flea, which the city used to test the quality of discharge from its waste-treatment plant, might cost the city form $100,000 to $200,000. Tests are required by the state and federal governments to ascertain whether the minnow and the flea died from natural causes or from a problem with the discharge. THE ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT -- In January, New York News- day reported that a "thriving" gun rental business was operating in a Brooklyn housing project. Accord- ing to police, the market price was $20 a night for a 9mm gun, but rose to $100 if the gun was used to shoot someone. - The Toronto Globe and Mail reported in January that a California company will soon introduce a hand-held device that will enable the user to pinpoint his location anywhere on*earth, by use of satel- lites, within 10 yards. -- Danville, Va., inventor David Bivens, who has developed large, irrigated brushes for washing cars and trucks (such as those found in commercial car washes), told the (Chicago Tribune in November that he had developed such a device for washing people. A person stands next to the brush and rubs against it as it makes 90 to 120 revolutions per minute, flicking off dirt (and dead skin). -- The official China Daily news- paper reported in December that consumers were buying “millions” of Western-style Christmas car even though many Chinese do not understand what the holiday mes- Sages mean. "Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Season's "wrote the paper, “are becoming household words in China.” -- In November, Houston judge Jim Barkley, 51, quietly closed his part-time business. For several weeks, according to courthouse employees, Barkley had been oper- ating a golf wear haberdashery in his office, with monogramming ser- vices offered by his wife. Barkley denied a conflict of interest, saying, “The attorneys can buy the stuff, but there's no obligation.” CELEBRITIES -- In December, a court in Gal- latin, Tenn., ordered Thomas James Fry of Jensen Beach, Fla., to stop harassing singer Conway Twitty. Fry, 24, says Twitty, 58, is his son. -- Model Cindy Crawford told a feminist conference at Princeton University in January that she is not obsessed with her appearance: "I don't ever wake up looking like Cindy Crawford. Believe me, I don't want to look at my naked body in a three-way mirror any more than you do.” Jn January, opera singer Luciano Pavarotti was accused by the author of a 1972 art book of copying her drawings and offering them for sale under his name. One painting, which Pavarotti told an interviewer was so touching to him that he cried when he painted it, was allegedly so faithfully copied that it included the original artist's errors in scenic detail HOROSCOPES March 28 - April 3 ARIES — March 21/April 20 Friends may say that you're weird, but to you, this is probably not an insult, You of all people know that you're not actually weird, you just have a different approach to life, that’s all. Most of your friends appre ciate you for that very reason. It's a good time to start saving money TAURUS - April 21/May 21 You are probably on the verge of being burned out from working so hard. You need to learn how to dele gate responsibilities. Your hands are not the only capable pair in the world. Your loved ones are con cemed about your welfare; let them know everything is all right. GEMINI - May 22/June 21 This will be a very strange week Every time something bad happens something twice as good will happen soon after. The expression “you have to take the bad with the good” applies here. But don't worry, the bad won't be anything you can't handle CANCER - June 22/July 22 Your moody behavior is driving everyonearound you nuts! This is especially true in the caSe of your partner. Send him or her flowers and promise to behave! Something great will happen to you Thursday. If you're saving up for something spe Cial, How would be a good time to evaluate your financial situation LEO — July 23/August 23 Don't take your close friends for granted. You could be at the verge of losing a valuable friendship it you don't show that you appreciate his or her efforts. Your financial situation is starting to look better; just continue to keep spending to a minimum. You will win a small battle at work; now it’s time to concentrate on the war VIRGO - Aug 24/Sept 22 A situation that seemed new and exciting to you a few months back is now sort of dull and boring. With some initiative and imagination, you could make the situation fun again. A Libra friend will advise you on pos sible options. A family pet is craving your attention LIBRA = Sept 23/Oct 23 This will be an excellent week for you. You will feel cheerful and gen erally at peace with yourself. A great opportunity will come your way at work; jump on it as soon as possible Romance will be the highlight of the weekend, as you and your partner tighten your bond SCORPIO -— Oct 24/Noy 22 You will feel pulled in a thousand dif- ferent directions. Basically, that's because you're needed to do too many things. Try to miake yourself-a little less indispensable at work. It won't hurt your career any, and you will have greater peace of mind. Your financial situation looks very good. SAGITTARIUS — Nov 2¥Dec 21 Don't make promises you can't kee A friend will resent you if you cancel plans at the last minute. You need to practice Saying “no.” It's really not that hard, and you will gain more respect that way. You will do something v off-beat this weekend. Let your family know you care about them. CAPRICORN - Dec 22/Jan 20 You're your own worst critte. A recent failure is not as severe as you make it out to be. You must take a look at yourself from an outsider's point of view. Don’t put off medical or dental appointments. A visit from old friends lifts your spirits. AQUARIUS — Jan 21/Feb 18 Things have been going very well for you, and guess what? They're going to get even better! At some social function, you will meet a very inter. esting Taurus who can indirecily ben efit your financial situation. Don't give out too much information about your personal life, especially during mid week. PISCES — Feb 19/March 20 If you've been feeling down in the dumps lately, it’s time to perk up. A streak of luck is following you, and many good things will happen Wednesday and Thursday will be ly good days. Listen to the advice of a Scorpio associate before making a financial change. Don’t fall prey to gossiping Leos. YOUR BIRTHDAY THIS WEEK The next 12 months: This should be a good: year all around. There will be times when you're down but, for the most part, you will be content, You will be espe- cially lucky in the late part of the summer. So, if you're planning any major changes, August would be the time to do it. You will probabty travel quite a bit this year. Sometime in the fall you will be reunited with a past love. A new relationship could form but, be careful, it might not be in your best interests. You and a family member will become closer because of a mutual interest.
