It was in 1893 the claims were staked that led to the opening of the St, Bugene Mine and the founding of the town. Letters have gone out across North America inviting former residents to come and join in the festivities sched- uled for August 6, 7 and 8, 1993 Organizers have planned historical displays, a walkabout, music, story-telling, quilt show, fireworks and more. Three meals will be provided There will be horseshoe and botce pits available, and a play- groung for children. While there are various other activities planned, the emphasis will be on providing an atmosphere for pre- sent and former residents to reminisce and renew old friendships. Masters Provincial swim meet in North Vancouver toting the fruits of their labor— an amazing 77 medals and a new Canadian record in the mixed 200m relay. “Our swimmers were happy with their times; quite a few per- sonal bests were accomplished and almost all other times were within a second of their best times,” said Marg van Yzerloo one of the competitors from Castlegar. There were 222 swimmers from all areas of British Columbia competing in the three-day event The ten local swimmers covered many age groups ranging from Jodi Young in the ladies 20-24 age group, to Chuck Wools who swam in the men’s 75-79 group. One of the highlights of the meet was when four local swim- mers broke the Canadian record in? the mixed 200m relay. The swim- mers: Marg van Yzerloo; Betty Brussel; Chuck Woolls and Gerry Brussel combined their ages to compete in the 280+ category. The men’s 200m Medley Relay also beat the existing Canadian record, but they were beat to the finish line by the North Vancouver Masters Swim Chib team and had to settle for the silver medal.
