SELS is run out of the San- dman Inn by the Castlegar branch of the Red Cross Society which Will celebrate “Wortd-Red-Cross Day on May 8. Babaeff has been with the 1 Volunteers key to success “I have trouble filling the (work) calendar’ when people go on vacations, she said. “We can always use more (people),”” Babaeff said, noting that two hours a month is ‘‘not a lot” of time and provides a painless way to ease into volun- teering. ‘She said SELS workers feel needed-and-usefut: “The people (who use SELS) ‘are very grateful for the service;> says Babaeff. Over 100 local inter organization for about three years. “J got bullied into it,”” she said with a laugh, describing how a friend her to residents last year, which they would have had to buy if SELS didn’t exist, she says. No fees are charged although for two hours each month with the service. The Red Cross needs more people like Eileen Babaeff, he added. The Red Cross operates in 149 countries and involves more than 250 million volunteers. Fiddlers will be busy A regular meeting of the B.C. Old- time Fiddlers, Kootenay No. 9 was held in the Seniors Hall in Castlegar on April 29 with 29 members and one guest in attendance. ‘A report was given on the fiddle «contest_in Castlegar on April 21. It was one of the best contests held so far and visiting contestants said they enjoyed their stay in Castlegar and are planning to return again next year, the Kootenay No. 9 fiddlers said in a news release. The group thanked those who attended the contest and dance and made it a success. The fiddlers have accepted in- vitations to play at the following events: May 11 — the Castlegar Community Complex for the parks and recreation conference; June 14 — Gyro Park in Trail. conference; June 14 — Gyro Park in Trail. It was noted that on May 18, 19 and 20, Woodstake wilt host a blue grass festival. “ On June 9, Post Falls, Idaho, will hold its annual fiddle contest. On Aug. 11 Vernon will have its annual contest. On June 2 the fiddlers will enter a float in the Castlegar Sunfest parade. On Sept. 29, the fiddlers will hold their annual dance in the Community Complex. The next meeting of the club will be held in the Seniors’ Hall May 27. This will be the last meeting until Aug. 26 and will include a potluck supper.
