The new steamer Rossland ia lying at the dock here receiving her finishing touches, She is a beauty and will be the swiftest atern-wheeler on the Pacific coast. Captain Short of the Kootenay showed your correspondent through the new boat. She 1s 180 feet long and 28 feet beam. Itis calculeted that she will easily make around trip between Arrow- head and Robson every day, a distance 6f 240 miles. She” made ‘a ‘three-hour trial run with 120 pounds of steam and averaged 20 miles an hour. Captain Troup, who designed the boat, says ‘she can make 22 miles an hour with full steam on, which is 160 pounds. She will carry only passengers, baggage, exprees and the mails. She will gointo service in about three weeks. She is capable of carrying 180 tons. She is provided with the latest and most improved machinery. Her two en- gines have an 8-foat stroke and 24-inch bore cylinders. Theelectric plant is the beat. Every room on the bo.t is provi- ded with electric light. There are 26 handsomely decorated state rooms, and the saloon and office. The ‘Texas’. or third deck is composed of 11 rooms for the officers. She is finished in cherry.
