Hydro spokesman Chip Smith ‘reports that while the peak water level is usually reached by the No Favors for Gov't Pulp Mills Environment - Ministor Jack Davis says the B.C. government's pulp and paper mills can expect no special exemptions from nation-wide pollution control standards, “If they want to gel into what has normally been the private sector and start rescu- ing old mills then they can't expect any different treatment than the private sector gets,” said Mr. Davis. The statement was the latest development in what has * turned into a running battle between the Liberal govern- ment in Ottawa and B.C.'s NDP government over introduction of pollution-control measures in the B.C. controlled mills, Mr. Davis described .the mills—a paper mill at Ocean Falls and two pulp mills near 3 , Prince Rupert—as among the firat week of July, it will be later this year. Over 1,000 children raced, jumped, cheered and ate, providing excellent candid cam- era material. On Saturday and Sunday the Venturers and Rangers held a‘Camporee: at Syringa Creek Park with over 150 young men and women, from centres in British Columbia camping and canoeing. Any one of these youngsters would have been a wholesome candidate for the front’ page of our only newspaper.
