~ Saturday, February 29, 1992 IN MENORY Nellie Kanigan of Ootischenia passed away Feb. 19, 1992 at the age of 83 years. - The "publisher is on vacation" classified ad sale! . a, | Mrs. Kanigan was born April 25, 1908-at Arran, Saskatchewan and came to Brilliant with her parents as a young girl. She married Walter C. Kanigan at Ootischenia in 1935. She lived at Ymir for a short time, returning to Ootischenia where she lived the rest of her life. She was a member of the USCC and enjoyed garden- ing and cooking. : Mrs. Kanigan is survived by four sons, Mike, Walter, John and Phillip, all of Ootischenia; one daughter, Olga Johnson of Kelowna; 12 grandchildren and 13:great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 1989 and two brothers, Alex and William Kootnikoff. Funeral service was held at the Brilliant Cultural Centre on Feb 21 and 22, with burial in the Ootischenia Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Castlegar Funeral Chapel. Peter J. Poznekoff Peter J. Poznekoff of Shoreacres, B.C. passed away Feb. 20, 1992, at the age of 91 years. Mr. Poznekoff was born June 29, 1900 in Saskatchewan (Village of Pakrovka). He moved to Glade, B.C. in 1912 and married Polly Kazakoff in 1925. They resided in various places in the Kootenays — Ootischenia, Castlegar, Krestova, South Slocan — and in 1981 he moved to Shoreacres where he lived his final years with his son Peter and his family. Mr. Poznekoff was a member of the Christian Community of Universal Brotherhood, which later became known as the Union of Spiritual Communities of Christ. He was a logger and mill worker for most of his life and he also enjoyed gar- dening. He is survived by his sister Natasha Lactin, son Peter Poznekoff of Shoreacres, two daughters, Polly Malekow of Crescent Valley and Lillian Poznekoff of Kelowna, six grandchildren and five great grandchil- dren. He was predeceased by his wife on December 22, 1991, a sister Nora Tayzoff, brother Alex Poznekov and grand- son Phillip Malekow. Funeral services were held at the Shoreacres Hall , Feb. 22 and 23, with a burial at noon in the Shoreacres Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Valley Funeral Home. Charles Henry King Charles Henry King of Castlegar passed away at the Trail Regional Hospital Feb. 23, 1992 at the age of 82 years. Mr. King-was born July 4, 1909 in Calgary, Alberta. He moved with his parents to Crawford Bay in 1921, where he lived until moving to Trail in 1926 to take up employment with Cominco. -In 1939 he married Nellie May (Peggy) Davis of Nelson and they took up residence in Castlegar. After 20 years with Cominco, he assumed the position of Secretary-Treasurer of the Castlegar School Board. While serving in this capacity he also drove the school bus. He retired from the school board in 1970. During his early years in Castlegar, Charlie was a Cub and Scout leader and for many years taught St. John Ambulance first aid courses. He also served for many years as chairman of the Castlegar Public Library Board. Mr. King is survived by his loving wife Peggy, one son, Bob of Quesnel, daughters Jeanette Cassell of Kamloops and Marjorie King of Calgary and four granddaughters. Funeral services were held at St. David’s Anglican Church on Feb. 27, with Rev. Dorothy Barker officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Box 3023, Castlegar, B.C.
