Memorial services for Mrs,
iGrace Evangeline Butler who
‘died suddenly in’'the Trail
Regional Hospital on July! 25,

Denver, on Sunday, July 28,

formed by the Ladies’ Auxiliary
to the Royal Canadian ration
and by Martha Chapter No. 24,
Order of the,Eastern Star.

Mrs, Butler was born in
Slocan’ City on Sept. 18, 1900
and spent the early part of her
life there. She was, the second
daughter. of Mr.:and Mrs. Thos
J. Armstrong, a pioneer family.
well known in” the’ Slocan
Valley. Her ‘only brother
James, was killed at Vimy
Ridge in World War 1. She was
also predeceased by two sisters
Mrs. Jean Swedenborg and
Mrs. Bertha Shannon.

deceased by’ him’ in, 1960.
During her lifetime she made
her home in Slocan City,
Rosebery, Penticton,’ Victoria
and ‘latterly in New, Denver.
‘Mrs. Butler was active in
the life of the community of
New Denver. She was ‘a mem-

ber of Knox .Presbyterian .

Church until its doors were
closed. She also taught Sunday
School there, She was a 24-year
member of Martha Chapter No.
24, 0.E.8., Nakusp and held
almost every office during that
period. She just recently com-
pleted her year at Grand Ruth
in the Grand Chapter of British
Columbia, 0.E.S. which met in
Penticton in May. She was
immediate past president of the
Ladies’ Auxiliary to the Royal
Canadian Legion and always
worked hard for that organiza-
tion, She was also an. active
member of the’ New Denver
Women's Institute and was
second vice-president of the
New Denver-Silverton Senior

of Victoria and’ Mrs, A. (Shar-
on) Gustafson of New. Denver.

A son Bob, predeceased
her in 1949,
