OLOUSICY,, LOCAL NEWS Rotarians get hands dirty By JOHN CHARTERS On Aug. 7;-the Castlegar Rotary Club's regular dinner meeting became a “‘dirty hands’ meeting at the Aquatic Centre. In 1989 the club voted to provide $12,000 to construct an outdoor ac- tivity area and barbecue site adjacent to the pool as a part of the club’s community activities. ‘The sidewalk and deck at the south end of the centre have just been com- pleted at cost by Banshee Construc- tion Ltd. and although unfinished they have already seen enthusiastic use by the Aquanauts swim club. On Aug. 7, the Rotarians post- poned dinner in order to stain the deck and prepare the surrounding area for sodding and a sprinkler system. The project is in two phases. Phase one includes all of the above-men- tioned ‘work plus a protective fence and a sign recognizing the project initiators and sponsors: the Castlegar Rotary Club, Celgar, Pulp Co., Westar Timber Ltd. and an anonymous industrial donor. It is hoped phase one will be com- pleted by the beginning of September. Phase two is planned for next spring when brick and concrete bar- becue pits will be built on the Castlegar Rotarians get their hands dirty seinins the new veh ot the Aquatic Centre and preparing the su: prepared concrete pads adjacent to the deck.
