-= -;J::ty q :lf) ~ - ALICE Last week I took part in a very satisfying experience, namely the first gettogether of all of my family. It was a really wonderful experience to have all of them around. The trip to and from Kalamalka Lake was uneventful but we did get to see some wonderful country and the resort where we stayed was satisfying in every respect. One of the developments to come out of the recent Slo-Pitch weekend in Rossland comes in the form of a donation of a set of bases to the league by a pair of real slo-pitch enthusiasts, Skip and Joan Ferguson. They have seen fit to make the donation in memory of Joanie's dad, Jack Molyneux, who was quite a slo-pitch fan in his day. He was also a player of no mean ability. I'll never forget one game I watched him play in at one of our Legion derbies. It was in a field frequented by a herd of cattle at Big Sheep. Jac;k had gotten to first base and with a following hit he took off for second, realizing he could take third, he lit oul I'll never know to this day if he slipped on tak~ff for third but I'll swear his feet never touched the ground until he arrived at third. I don't know if you'd call it suspended animation, or what, but his little short legs never stopped churning. Thank you, Skip and Joan, on behalf of all the ball players and fans. At the upper course I have two weeks to report on concerning Retirees' golf. Last week Bart Dudley and Carl Osing handled the show. They had a lovely day and 57 participants. Low net was shared by Al Turner and Carl Martin each with 34s. In the count your putts department, it was Sammy Martin the winner with 12. Carl Seefeldt was in with the longest putt on no. 9 with an 8'6" effort and Jimmy Scott was closest to the pin on no. 5 coming within four feet. Gordon McLaren was closest to a stake planted on no. 1 fairway with his initial drive to take care of that department. This week's effort saw 52 retirees out on another beautiful day. Carl, Bart and I took charge and had 5 contests. Joe Bielli and Roger McKeown tied for low net at 44 with Roger winning on a toss of the coin. In a match par with your own choice of handicap it was Bart Dudley as the only successful player. His handicap 17 on a 53 round for a par 36. The most honest golfer was Carl Osing with a 66 and in the hidden holes high and low, Joe Riley had an eight on no. 4 for high while Marcel Proulx had a four on no. 8 for the low. Next week Chris Christianson will be in charge with a partner yet to be named.
