City council approved the transfer of the properties from Regional District of Central Kootenay zoning to Castlegar zoning after residents attend- ing the hearing raised no ob- jections to the proposed bylaw. Planning technician Andy Swetlishoff told those attend- ing the meeting properties would be rezoned from rural- RDCK to rural-city, ‘light in- dustrial-RDCK to light indus- trial-city -and commercial- RDCK to highway commercial- city. He said he believed about 600 of the votes cast’ in his favor “were the committed votes of working people I've known through the years," while those residents critical of his position on council “didn't feel strongly enough to vote against me.” Hallett named her mode- rate stance as a factor in her election. “I got votes from every- where, from downtown busi- nessmen and from hard-line NDPers,” she said. “I didn't Solel any particular part of the She said she had built a base for local support with seven years of activities in the community, but she “campaign- ed very little" for the city council seat. “If I had run a rip. snorting campaign I could have topped the polls,” she said.
