Compliments Castlegar News By LORNE ASHTON Helen Leduc, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 170 Ladies Aux iliary, was presented with a life membership pin at a Legion branch and auxiliary dinner Saturday night The annual dinners that are put gp by the branch for the ladies auxiliary and the ladies for the branch, were combined this year at the suggestion of the auxiliary The dinner is held to show the appreciation to each group over the past year for work well done. Working together has raised a considerable amount of money which is donated back into the community to many different organizations The Legion was expecting HOMEGOODS 130 people to attend the dinner but only about 84 showed up and the branch still ended up paying for 130 dinners. The dinner was catered by East Gate Gardens and was served by Stanley Humph ries band members. The Branch donated $400 to the band for its services. Vice-president Bob Dep tuck stood in for president Denny Tucker as master of ceremonies. Ed Zorn said Grace. Past president Jim Moore gave the toast to the Queen. Ladies Auxiliary president Dorothy Fleming presented Ledue with her life member ship pin for many years of voluntary service. Leduc joined the organiza Lion in 1970. She was catering supervisor for 14 years. She has held all executive po sitions throughout the years, including being president for five years. The cost of graduating one dog and student team is approximately $5,600. The school has graduated 38 teams since opening in 1985. Last year, thousands of Canadians walked their dogs for Canine Vision Canada and raised $250,000 in the first ever national walk for the school This year the fund raising goal has also been doubled to $500,000, as organizers ex pect the number of walks to double.
