Austin’s New Poem. ‘The London Times publishes a poem from the pen of the poet laureate, Mr. Alfred Austin, entitled, ‘‘Pax Britann- ica,” singing’ of Englands display of Preparednest for war and the dismay of her i The last stanza reads: “NOTICE, On and afver December 1, The Rossuanp, Ev- E®ING RecoRD will be delivered to any address in the United States or Canada for$5 a yeary and delivered toany part of the city for, 16 cents @ week, or 60 cents month The morning paper is responsible for the slim attendance at Chaplain Bate- man’s lecture, to the extent of its mea- oy circulation and reputation for acon: But they who watch From where the west wind blows, Since great themselves; Proud that their kith are great, Said, '‘See what comes, ‘ ‘When England with her foes, Speaks at the gate.” Carnival Committee. The general meeting of the Rossland Winter Carnival committee, called ‘for Monday 28, has been , because “it easing that the lecture would be given Sunday instead of Saturday evening. ee The Miner, without a blush, prints Sunday, an accountof the meeting of the St. Andrew’s society of last Friday, ‘just as though: it was its first issue after the meeting. The Miner is getting to be a back number, publishing most of the local news after it appearain the Record. Agcin we are under the painful neces- sity of calling our. morning contempo-|_ rary down., It saya the Board of Trade meeting has been postponed until Nov. 81, That sheet may “boss the city council. and dictate to the Board of Trade,” but we object to ita stretching out the winter months, which are already long enough. ee The licensed victuallers of Rossland P cannot afford to pay $600 a year license, _ and in. many instances, high rent, and sell beer for 5 centsa glass. Since un- fore are so fashionable the hotel men should form one and raise the price, and if anyone engaging in the business holds _ out againat, it, fight him with every law- fal means. —SE SE The Record will, on and after Dec. 1, next, print free to those seeking em- postponed. aH “Thureday evening, De- cember 1, at the same time and place. . Mr. Montague, DUNNVILLE, Ont: Haas an Interesting Chat about «Dr. Chase’s Ointment.. His suffering from Ulcerating Piles Cured. He says :—~I was troubled with itching ples for five years, and was badly ulcer- ated. They were very painful, so much so that I could not sleep. I tried almost every remedy heard of, and was recom. mended to use Dr. Chase's Ointment. purchased a box, and from the first ap pli: cation got such relief that I was, satisfied ‘a cure would be made. I used in all two boxes, and am now completely cured. Every remedy given by Dr, Chase cost years of. study and research, and with an eye single to its adaptation for the ailments for which it was intended. ir. Chase detested cure-alls, and it has been proven ten thousand times that not‘one of his formulas ‘leave a_ bad after-effect. Dr, Chase's Ointment is based on lanoline, and the best physicians prescribe it, Sold by all dealers. Dr, Chase’s Cloth Bound Recipe Book 1,000 pages, sent to any address. in: Canada, price 50 cents. Pp not three lines for three successive issues, and we hope those out of employment, will use the space set apart for ‘‘sitva- tions wanted” ‘liberally. The object of this departure istn assist those who need assistance in obtaining employ- ment during the holidays, and through the winter ifthe experiment demon- atrates the fact that there are many who are in need of assiatance. . The laboring people have no just cause tocomplain of Mr. Thompson for his action in the council in favoring the payment of $2.60a day for ordinary street work. That ie all the muckers in the mines are paid, and 50 cents and $1 aday more. than railroad laborera get for the same kind of work. Mr.Tnomp- son is entitled to great credit for taking the stand he did. Politicians less hon- est and sincere would have favored high wages for the purpose of catching a cer- tain class of votes, but Mr. Thompson chose to do what he believed to be his duty to the ratepayera of Rossland, and he will not lose anything by it at the polls.
