pEPP-JALIC ~ A good friend of mine passed on Sunday night at home. · I don't think there was a person in Rossland or anywhere be was known, who could say be disliked Jack Cox. Jack was loud and could be abrasive when be wanted to, but underneath a lot of that bluster was a man who truly stood out. For 15 years be served on the executive board of the Rossland Civic Activities Association and later became its president. 1bose were the days when the members of the board were working on the bill and double-shifted many times when there was trouble around the arena. If my memory serves me correctly, Jack was one of the last members to vacate bis post as bead of the RCAA when the city moved in to take over the running of our winter recreation facility on the comer of SecondandSpokaneSts. However, be didn't stop there. Shortly after that, be joined the Warriors as the announcer at the games in Rossland. In fact, be did bis last stint on that job Saturday night before bis untimely end Sunday. He also was a charter mem- ber of the Lions when that organization formed its Golden City Lions club in Rossland. He rose to become its treasurer. He bas also taken a keen interest in Legion affairs and bad been named to the ways and means com- mittee. Yes, indeed, here was a man who gave of himself everything he could to help any worthwhile effort to improve our way of life. Jack was an all-round sportsman. He loved fishing and, in bis younger years, was a terrific speedster on the track. He was also a top-notch lacrosse player for our oldtime Redmen. A story is told of Jack when be played in the old lacrosse box. The forerunner of the arena floor for that sport, he came to be known as Red Mountain Cox because of bis habit of looking up at Big Red when he went to shoot, to throw the opposiiton goalie off. You could almost say the Cox family was Warriororiented. Besides Jack's work in the score-keeper's box, Greta was a pretty permanent fixture in the ticket booth at the arena. They also raised two sons who played a lot of hockey +Jr-2~/'@+ #ii !wry P111111« Whatever happens from for the Warrior cause, Rick, an all-star defen- now on does not have any ceman and Ronnie, a fine bearing on the following.
