February 8, 1989 SPORTS i COMMUNITY NEWS EDMONTON (CP) — As Bob Pytar once sang, the times they are changing, ‘That's particularly true for Larry Robinson and Steve Duchesne. “When I was young he was my idol,"’ Duchesne, the Los Angeles Kings’ defenceman, said of Robinson, the veteran rearguard for the Montreal Canadiens. “I’m very happy to play against this guy:"* LA, The two faced each other in Tuesday's 40th annual NHL all-star game Duchesne, 23, playing in his first all-star game, collec- ted two assists as the Campbell Conference dumped the Wales Conference 9-5 fpr its first win in five contests. Robinson, the Wales’ captain and the games oldest player at 37, collected two assists in his ninth and possibly last all-star appearance “1 enjoy seeing people do well,’ Robinson said of Duchesne, his golf partner and off-ice friend “For a guy that wasn’t even drafted, he’s shown a lot of people that he deserves to be here. He looked a little nervous at first, but you expect that Nervous? “*You bet,’’ laughed Duchesne, signed as a free agent by the Kirigs in 1984 “When I jumped on the ice the first time I was afraid I would fall. The redhead from Red Deer, Alta., playing in his home province, scored a goal and was paired with Robinson along the blue line “1 was very satisfied,’ said Wesley, 20, the towel around his waist barely concealing a tattoo on his left leg. “Larry and I broke up some good plays. He’s a very stable and steady defenceman, It was very. thrilling playing with him out there.” Robinson praised the efforts of his young, spike ‘ed, moustached partner.” ‘Glen is very good,”’ he said. ‘He anticipates well, moved the puck well: He's going to be heard from.” Robinson also has.been-heard from in his 17-year NHL career. In 1,183 games he has scored 196 goals and has had 677 assists.
