Because of a new job involving shift work, Walker coyld not com mit to being available for every game and practice this season. Instead, he will co-coach the team along with Gary Sauer, who has assumed the title of head coach. "We're actually gaining by this,” said Jim Draper, president of the hockey club. "You usually get one qfialified coach and the assistants you can find. “Both could have been coaches of the Rebels." He said that, as a coaching team, Walker and Sauer perfectly compliment each other. “Gary is a good player devel- oper has good on-ice skills." Walker, who also has solid on-ice experience, also has invaluable contacts throughout the Western Hockey League. “We've got the best of both worlds,” said Draper. "Both are committed to the team.” And he said that should bode well for the team. "The proof will be in the pud- ding - we may even have an excellent season.” That season is set to start Sept 14, when training camp opens at the Castlegar Complex. Gary Birch, senior environ- mental coordinator at B.C. Hydro, said that as a result of the inspection, the levels of the Columbia River will fluctuate by two feet. “In doing this inspection we had to take in for account Pope & Talbot's desire to continue their log transfer, as well as biological studies and the safe- ty of fisheries,” Birch said A number of different biolog- ical studies will be done in con- junction with the safety inspection, which is supposed to be completed at least every three years. On September | at 11 a.m., water flow through the dam will be dropped from 20,000 Cubic Feet per Second (CFS), down to 5,000 CFS. At 1:30 p.m. that same day, the levels will be brought back up to 20,000 CFS. At 4:30 p.m., the flow will be decreased to 5,000 CFS, where it will be kept until 7 p.m.. After this time, it will be brought back up to 20,000 CFS On September 2 at 10 a.m., the flow will again decrease from 20,000 to 5,000 CFS and will remain that way until 12:30 p.m.. After this time it will be brought back up to 20,000 CFS until 3:30 p.m., when it will be dropped again to 5,000 CFS. At 6 p.m., the water level through the dam will be brought back up to 15,000 CFS. On September 3 at 10 am, the amount of water flowing through the dam will be stopped completely until 12:30 p.m., then it will be brought Providing A Voice For Seniors back up to 15,000 CFS. At 3:30 p.m., the flow will again be shut off until 6 p.m., then it will be increased to 15,000.
