Middelkamp charges 3.5 per cent for exclusive sales
compared with the usual industry rate of five per cent,
and 5.5 per cent for multiple listings compared with the

standard seven per cent.

On a $100,000 house, that would mean Middelkamp’s
commission would be $1,500 less than his competitors’.

Middelkamp, 39, has sold real estate for 13 years and
has owned his own company for nine. He says his
problems began in 1981 when he began charging and

“I wanted a company that specialized in residential
sales at less than what I thought was excessive
commission rates,” he i in an interview.

“Since then, I've n harassed and subjected to
