Keep your eye on Burton City bid. Bai Bia! Dellie, 125g aske The city hes evidently taken the cheapest and best method of removing the big rock pile out of the street at the junction of Columbia avenue and Law- rence street, as it will not cost, it is claimed, more than $1,000. About $300 worth of rock will be sold, which will leave the cost to the city about $700. This is very economical work, as it had ” Faled stocks were sane as fol- Helen, 5 asked ; Grand par Buy 1 =o; (Sanitary and Waer Tank Company lows: pokane. Belle, 3¢ bid, 156 Cee been variously estimated that the work would cost from $2,200 to $4,000. The property owzers at the west end of Co- lumbia avenue are now entitled to have at least a portion of the ‘bluff at the junction of Columbia avenue and Earl street taken out. The property owners in that locality will contribate liberally toward removing the bluff with the as- surance that the city will do its part and that the money will be spent in taking out the whole width of the street. Those owning lots on the north side justly retuse to have their money used for the purpose of grading the south side of the street. There has already been a sufficient amount sub- scribed, if the city will do its part to take off the top of the bluff so the street will be passable with an easy grade. The Recorp is of the opinion that the wishes of the majority of the people would have been met, by the selection of the free site near the C. & W. depot, offered by the Montreal syndicate, for a hall and public buildings, rather than paying $5,500 for three lots on the cor- ner of Washington and Second streets. However, the council after: due consid- eration has made the selection and will have to answer to the people forit. The Recorp in favoring a free site and a fire station nearer the business center of town, did what it thought to be to the best interests to the taxpayers. The owners of the Golden Dawn mineral claim are protesting against Corbin’s claims to their surface ground. They have a crown grant and claim the right to use the surface for mining purposes, which would necessarlly in- terfere with the sale of lots and town- site purposes. It would be a good thing for all claimants to the lands around Rossland to amicably settle their disputes and let the building up of Rossland go forward as it should. The Golden Dawn adjoins the Paris Belle on the east. It is about time for Rossland’s base- ball nine to get in an assert iteelf and scorea winning. It has not won a game so far. It may be that “our boys,” are allowing the other teams to get a little start so they can show their gait. Manager McCallum promises better results, Perhaps ‘Little Willie Fagan” will prove a Mascot—We hope so. It might be well, if Fagan fails them to import some Greek players su they can score a run.
