10 CASTLEGAR NEWS, Thursday, June 13, 1963 Guide, Brownie Parent Group Holds Meeting The regular meeting of the, Parent Association to Guides and, Brownies was held Monday even- ing at the home of Mrs. H. John- son, This was the final meeting of the season, There were nino mem- bers present and Mrs, A. Richards, the president, presided. The meeting was opened with all repeating the Gulde prayer. Minutes and ‘treasurer's report were read, A thank you note for gift received was read from Mrs, A Shaw a former Brown Owl, who is now residing in Nelson, Committee reports werd heard. It was reported that the Mother's Day Tea had been successful and Mrs, Richards thanked all those who had helped in any way to make the .tea a success. The bills for the tea had been paid, It was also reported that some of the Guides had gone out to Camp Rory to help prepare the camp for summer activities, It had been hoped that some of the parents would have helped with the camp. It: was decided that the executive be empowered to make any decis- fons ‘and make out cheques during the summer if the need arises. Scouts be asked to help with the preparing of Camp Rory,.as there is still much work to be done. A cheque is to be aent to Dene Gir- aud in Robson to help her with expenses to Guide camp in Covina, California, It was learned that Girl Guide Cookie money is still to come in and it was urged that those owing cookie money try to get it in right away so that the treasurer can get the books done up for the summer, At the close of a very busy business session the hostess served delicious refreshments. In ten years time we will be able to think back to this evening and say ‘Well, we've sure come a long way since then,’ L imagine the fellows who fashion- ed this’ course out of the rough about six years ago will be using these same words as of today, and, if we can improve our course as much as they did, in the samo length of time, then I’m sure..we will have something to be proud “of. . Over 50 couples turned out in force and a vote of thanks goes out to those fellows who love the brunt of the attack; John Miros and Ernie Fitz. patrick who had the uneviable job S| of trying to pass out handicaps to RURAL es many of the contestants, some of whom were turning out for the first time; to Bob Wadey for the great job he did in masterminding the’ passing out of the other type of handicap’ (?), and /to all, the others who pitched in and helped any way. Dick Wayling contributed ap- proximately three hours on the piano to make the evening session a howling success, even the coyotes sat back and listened. As far a3 I could see there was just one thing lacking — a bigger Club House! And then of course there was the entertainment served up on No. 1 tee; too bad someone didn’t pass the hat, Okay, okay, so there happens tobe two gentlemen in the club, Bill Reed and myself both agree that we could have knocked that ball a’ country mile’ off ‘the first tee, but we have been brought up to believé in that old saying of, “Ladies First." Which is -more than we can say for the rest of you show-offs! I don't know about Bill's par- tner, but Lorne Zinio must have thought ‘that he could make me feo] better by dribbling his ‘shot off the tee and then making a mighty hole in the atmosphere on his second shot (and it wasn’t with the ball!). By the time we finished that first hole. our better halves were slightly more than disgusted and we realized just how much when it: came our turn to tee off on No. 3. They both took out their drivers and walked up to the tec with us! They explained later that they’ hadn't jiotended to: use’ the drivers on the ball — if we had missed again, I don’t believe this is strictly our story, just a: parallel to what was happening all over the course, Prizes in this scattergun con: test were distributed as follows: first prize, Sandra Gray and Dave Blishen; second, Kay McIntyre and Leo Bosse and twin golf balls to the Wilsons, galls, Borodulas’, (Hugo) and the McKees’. sorry the other fellows didn’t ge! golf balls but at least they would have'the pleasure of listening to their wives: all night long, telling them that if they had played golf the way it'should be played ‘then they. could have been winners too, | = (should konw!) «Now we must get back to see- ing just how our boys are doing in their guest for the “Bosse” Trophy. ‘Up until Sunday evening the latest standings ‘were: In the primary, 8rd round, it was Borodula over Stefoniuk, McDonald over Wood, Reed over Zinio, Walker over Fitz- Patrick, Wilson over Burak, Hyland over Wayling and Gjennestad, this last match completed the only bye in the tournament. -- In the 4th round, McDonald won out over Biln, Deverson over Boro- dula, Reed over Adams and this I believe winds up the 4th round. I don’t see too well in the dark but from what I could make ‘out from the sheet on Sunday nite the field. narrows.:down to teh following players: Hank Godderis, Bob Jef- fery, Buzz-McDonald, Dan Dever- son, Bill Reed, Otto Walker, Tom- my.
