At 10 o’clock thie morning the Recorp _ office received ithe emma note from has been enlarged and improved so that it ivas large as the stage of any theatre in British Columbia, having ample room for the whole company to be on at once, The balance of the specialty artists will partake in this lengthy program, as fol- lows: The Kramers, Mae Leondor, Charles Evans, Gazolas, Ada Warren, Charles Burton, Kate Rockwell, Kelly & Bertha, Tillie Hzgeil, and Celia D Lacey. ‘The first production in this city of John G, Gentle’s one act comedy drama, entitled “Railroad Jim.’ intro- ducing the entire cumpany in the cast, Li with a realistic railroad the C. P. R. at the Rossland office: «wail send you full Associate Press telegraph service, commeneing toduy.” ‘Lhis‘is the long expected, and still it was not expected for a week yet, and finds the office not exactly ready to han- dle it, but we willdothe best we can. Taking the {u:]. afternoon Associate Press dispatches means much to Rossland, and entails much additional expense to this _ office, but we feel sure that the citizens and business men. will fully appreciate that fact and extend additional eupport. We do not know yet just what the ser- yice will be, but do know that the ex- penee is the same as that of all other evening papers in the Dominion of Can- ada,‘and thatthe service promised ie the same. If it is, and we have no rea- son to believe that it will not be, Rose- Jand will have every reason:to be con- gratulated. Evening newspapers are fast becom- ing the lavorites with the reading pub- lic, because:the news of the day is being brought from all over the “world; fresh from the wires, “and what is left for the morning. papers ig usually the unim- portantand. ‘tardy. news of the day be- fore.. In the West ‘particularly, the evening paper has the best of it, especially for the news of Europe, for when the day is done there it atill. haa time to reach the evening ‘papers on the Pacific coast. Tt is always today’s news today, and the morning paper is today the news of yes- terday. Z The evening paper which receives the dispatches is the best advertising me- dium, because it is taken to the fireside and read by all, The morning paper ie glanced hurriedly over at the store and “the office by ‘business men before they comtnence their day’s work. When night comes .they have the later news and do notitake the time and trouble te peruse an old: newspaper. If our service'is what it should be, the Reconp will goon become indizpensable | ° on account of the outside news as it hat for the local news. Taking the ‘dispatches will very soon compel usto enlarge the Recorp and employ more printers, which, added to the cost of the service will make a very great difference inthe expense of the publication, The Recorp has always been con- ducted upon business principles, and the good people of Rossland have never re- quired us to run the paper at a loss, and we confidently expect.that they will now show their .appreciation .of our energy and effurta to-give them « better paper and renewand increase their patronage. We will see how much Improvement we can make and alto how well the people will do their-part. Just how the'great fight being waged “upen the ©, P. R. by the Roveland Miner is going to beriefit Rossland is not yet clearto the general public. Just why it is:being waged is also a mystery. The plot is thickening and everybody i wait brgatblesely for an. explana- avene. Don’t fail to see it.
