BCAA cautions against
harmful child restraints

The British Columbia Auto-
mobile. Association advises
consumers that some after-
market child restraint devices
for-use in automobiles are not
regulated by any federal or
provincial government agency.

Transport Canada has noti-
fied BCAA that some manu-
facturers of these devices are
implying the devices meet cer-
tain safety standards which
May cause consumers to in-
correctly assume they are test-
ed and approved for use.

These devices include but

“Child Saver”, and “Rich Safe-
ty Restraints”.

are seat belt attachments in-
tended to improve seat belt po-
sitioning on a child’s body.

signed to work either with a

tee to study whether these de-
vices should be regulated.

Transport Canada has not
tested any of these products
and cannot endorse them be-
cause they do not fall under
the Motor Vehicle Traffic Safe-
ty Act or Regulations.

dian Motor Vehicle Safety
Standards have a large com-
pliance label on the seat. Con-
sumers should check for that
label to ensure their restraint
system meets government
