The Castlegar Sun Wednesday, August 14, 1991 Dialogue BY TONI REINHOLD JACK ON THE BOX - My husband says that long before Jack Klugman got his part in “The Odd Couple,” be had an- other TV series. If this is true, what was the name of that show? Also, can you tell mea little bit about him? - F.R,, Sacramento, Calif. SS i Jack Klugman From 1964-65, Klugman starred in the comedy “Harris Against the World,” part of ABC's “90 Bristol Court” tril- ogy of Monday-night comedy series. He played Oscar Madi- son in “The Odd Couple” from 1970-75 and went on to portray a medical examiner in “Quin- cy, M.E.” (1976-83). He also starred in the 1986-87 sitcom “You Again?” Born on April 27, 1922, in South Philadelphia Pa., Klug- man served in World War II, then went to work as a stage actor in New York City, where he shared an apartment with another young actor named Charles Bronson. Klugman ap- peared in a number of “Golden Age” TV_ shows, including “U.S. Steel Hour,” “Playhouse 90” and “Kraft Television The- atre.” During 1954 and 1955 he was a regular in the soap “The Greatest Gift.” In 1964, he won an Emmy for a guest perfor- mance in “The Defenders”; he also won Emmys in 1971 and 1974 for his work in “The Odd Couple.” Klugman recently has been battling cancer of the throat. BARBARA GAZZARA? - Please scttle an argument for me. Was Barbara Eden ever married to Ben Gazzara? - W.S., Galesburg, Hl. No. But she was married to actor Michael Ansara from 1958-73. STARS OF ‘CHICO’ - A few years ago there was a TV show called “Chico and the Man,” about an elderly man who ran @ garage and a young man who worked for him. We believe the young man later commit- ted suicide. Can you give us their names and tell us if the young actor killed himself? - R.M., Buffalo, N.Y. “Chico and the Man” (1974- 78) starred Jack Albertson as garage-owner Ed Brown and comedian Freddie Prinze as Chico Rodriguez. Prinze killed himself with a shot to the head in 1977, when he was 22 years old. Prinze grew up in New York City. He was the son of a GLASS & TRIM LTD. But make allowances for those who may not feel as bright and breezy as you. A child will appear to be rather touchy at the moment, though there's plen- v of love underneath, Try to tone lown your leadership drive for the time being or you'll be considered bossy TAURUS - April 21/May 21 The weekend brings a puzzle. Don’t tush to solve a problem that's buzzing around in your head. There are a lot of possibilities and a danger that you could make a snap decision which won't be to your advantage, You may become involved in an argument and socially you may feel out of your depth, Remain calm and take your time with things, GEMINI - May 22/June 21 Don't allow others to trouble you with all their problems, If you can't escape such burdens, make it clear that you must be allowed to handle matters your way. It’s an excellent work week if you're involved with sales, exports or public relations, Work by your own rules and avoid arguments, CANCER - June 22/July 22 You enjoy making others feel more comfortable and cared for. This week offers a perfect opportunity to lavish tender loving care on more than one lost and lonely soul, Don't waste your time on last-minute changes of plans, A legal problem should sort itself out. LEO - July 23/August 23 Be sensible this week. It will be hard to explain things on the telephone, At any hint of confusion stop and demand not only to know the other side of the situation but also enough time to let your views and opinions be given serious consideration, Encourage a child to be artistic and tender-hearted. VIRGO - August 24/Sept 22 The face you wear when confronting the outside world is important. A hint of weakness will be noticed by your opponents and might be used against you in the future. New belongings could cause some prob- lems at first, so be sure to check measurements, instructions, etc., carefully. LIBRA - September 23/Oct 23 Stick with like-minded people. You need harmony. Those who love to argue stretch even your flexible lim- its to the breaking point. Promises made this week are important, so think before you make any, You’ get along well with officials. Wednesday seems unusually lucky! SCORPIO - October 24/Nov 22 Don't get involved in an argument that you don’t really understand, Be flexible: This isn't a week for'stick- ing to pattems of behavior that may have served you well in the past. You may have to compromise, But the results will show it to be a wise move, SAGITTARIUS - Nov 23/Dec 21. Don't expect to have much time to think things through. But rushing urgently here, there and everywhere won't give you sufficient time to consider details. Put duty before pleasure, however. If you help a neighbor, there will be a pleasant surprise in return, CAPRICORN - Dec 22/Jan 20 A vague feeling of not quite under- standing what's going on must not allow you to become so insecure that you lose your grip on common sense, Someone new at work will grouse your indignation. Enjoy the positive and allow the unknown to take care of itself. AQUARIUS - January 21/Feb 18 It could be an eventful weekend — and certainly you need more excite- ment than usual. Don’t fret if you can't get someone special to reveal his or her feelings. So much is hap- pening that you shouldn’t give so much attention to minor irritations. Keep on smiling. PISCES - February 19/March 20 You will be torn between duty and the irresistible urge to do as you please. The happiest way is a mix- ture. Do what has to be done — but let changes of plans be known as early as possible. Then relax and have fun, Within the family you admit a mistake, YOUR BIRTHDAY THIS WEEK The next 12 months i The next twelve months will be a magical time full of promise, when you can achieve many things and are likely to find yourself in the lime- light on more than one occasion! Let your enthusiasm have its way and refuse to allow stick-in-the-muds to dampen your spirits. People will look to you for leadership. Travel seems to be an important key-word for 1992; you may be contemplating a joumey which will prove memo- rable. The unattached must be bold in new romance.
