It is even more a personal tragedy for a man who has striven so hard to restore a gense of meaning and destiny for a country which has shown go many signs of coming apart at the seams, Mr. Pearson's present dilem- ma may not be of his own mak- ing, but he will nevertheless pay for it politically If he fs unable to find his way out of the confa- sion which now besets the feder: al government.
