They are ac- complishing absolutely nothing and: are providing Communism . with, fodder. But worst of all, they are creating an illusion in the United States that Canadians are sympathetic to everything the Negro does, Many people now travelling south are he- ing confronted with this very question. There is no question that the major- ity of Canadians resent brutality of any kind and are generally sympathetic to the Negroes, but it’s also a fact that most Canadians don’t know the first thing a- bout the Negro problem in the United States. And! furthermore, when our own ‘country disbars black people, it. would seem to us that the least we can do is keep “our mouth shut. The youth of today have far to much to say, and it pains us greatly to see half- educated university students suddenly. finding answers to all our world problems. Here we are, in our part of the world, with the highest standard of living in his- tory, with plenty of security, lots of room, telling less fortunate people how to live. Through our world help programs, we can and are doing quite a bit to help those less fortunate, but only as long as it isn’t affecting our standard of living. We have often been critical of the United States, and many of the situations © they now find themselves in could have been avoided with a little foresight. But the one thing we shouldn't do is try and tell the United States how to solve any internal problem.
