That Paper is ducting w col to FRI 'AY, JAN. 29, 1897. CONSERVATIVE WRITE UP. The Dairy Recorp is now engaged in a systematic, o nservative write-up oft all the ‘principal properties in this district. ‘They give the location, Owners, machisery, amount and kind of work, size of vein, value and char- acter of ore, and, in fact, all infor- mation desired by the general public. Bo for tie following properties have been written-up: Le Roi, Wa. Eagle, Josie, O. K., fron Horse, Tron Mask, Puoormin, Crown Point, Lily May, Co.um: ier, Deer Park, Victory, Triumph, City of Spokane, Nest Egg, Centre Star Phoenix, Northern Belle, Iron Colt Couns lidated St. Elmo, Mayflower, Jumbo, White Bear I. In connection with the letters the Miner introduces learned dissertations on the character of prospects, developing properties and mines, and opinions adnau- seam. Some well-directed inquiries have disclosed the fact that some of these letters are: not geauine, and this being 90, | tie designs of the’ Miner ly apparent. This bogus letter column is, of course, a valuable adjunct to the bogus min- ing.stock quotations, in the intro: ductory remarks, to. which stocks are knifed or coddled with some skill and little honesty of purpose. The same results aimed at by these bogus methods were formerly sought by the use of the editorial and news columns of the Miner, but that puper was “called down” 80 accurately and effectively that -it has changed its tactics. An effort which” is certainly in the right direction, on tie part of the mining brokers in Spokane, to secure uniform. and. established quotations of stocks is not only count of these properties can be had at this office at 5 cents a copy. —____ NEWS FOR ADVERTISERS. The Recorr has a larger circulation in Rossland than the cir- culation of all the other papers pub- lished in Rossland. The Datty Recorp has more than three times the vity circulation of any other daily paper published here. These are facts we chailenge any one to deny. We atund ready tu prove them. Taking circulation inte consideration advertising rates in the Dairy Recorp are , more than any other medium in Rossland Advertisers should not forget these facts. THE RAILROAD SITUATION. Everything indicates that the ” activity of three great transcon- tinental liues to secure a fuot-hold in the Kootenays had reached a point that definite action may be expected any day. The key to the situation ap- parently is in the possession of the Corbin railway system, The road that secures it will, at once, obtain ahold in the Kvotenays that will he difficult to duplicate, and even if that huld can be duplicated it can only be dove after much loss of time and by the selection of less desirable routes. The company that can secure the Corbin system must contem- plate the construction of the Crow’s Nest Pass roud, not only because that extension will open up an * only partially developed but rich, mining district but because the great coal fields there will furnish au enormous volume of traffic. As a general proposition com- petive transportation facilities are necessary to the rapid development of British Columbia and will give an impetus to industries of all kinds. Nevertheless, it requires much optimism to believe that the Canadian Pacific will ever be sub jected to competition in its own field, and the people must look for relief to reasonable regulation, in some measure, can be secured in connection with the chartera the Canadian Pacific will ask for. The contest now going on for the control of the Corbin system will result to the advantage of the Kootenays what ever may be the final outcome of the struggle. If an American tine secures it, there will be a lively rivalry between it and the Canadian Pacific. If the latter company gain» control, it will always feel compelled to con- tinue to so enlarge its facilities that the Amurican lines will not be tem- pted to extend their systems hroughout the K 3, If the ridiculed by the Miner but is . also, lutely misr dq, The Miner doesn't like the Spokane stock exchange because it iuterferes with that paper’s stuock-jobbing mill, which Rossland brokers have complained about,. The Miner wants to be let alone so tliat it, can pursue ite- spoked ‘course unimo- lested. This is.a matter of public con- cern. If the Miner. wants a bill of jicularg as to its hods of de- preciating stocks aud properties it will ke forthcoming. AN ALIEN LABOR LAW. What an Eastern Canada Paper Says Concerning It.
