I Last weekend there was a slow-p,tcb tournament in Rossland and a lot of fun was had by all. This event has been • going on for a number of yean under the steward.ship of a couple of Rossland residents whose names are synonomous with slowpitch, Kenny Dixon and cam Jensen. They have been at it for a long time and have got to know what it's all aboul When we have a tourney in Rossland, people come from all over because they know that it will be a first. class tournament and also they know that the main thing is not what you win , but, the good time you had doingil This tournament is very well run and to listen to the guys who come from a long way off to take part in it there is no way they would miss it. We meet old friends and really enjoy, so, as the man said, "What else is there?" The Animals from Calgary were the ultimate winnera after two games on Saturday which they won over the Sneaky's team from Elkford and the Higbliners from Salmon Ann, and two on Sunday when they were successful against the Kamloops Kats and then in the final ovet the Rossland Scrap. Presentation ceremonies followed the completion of play and everyone went home happy. I think it would be safe to say they'll be back again next year. Paul Anderson was in charge of the officiating staff and I didn't bear any complaints; it's an Anderson trademark that a good job be done. I talked to several of bis assistants and I didn't bear any second-guessing. I also talked to Claire Anderson and he showed me some pictures of bis son Kevin, this young man is into the body-building business and the pictures tend to prove that be earned the title of Mr. Junior B.C. In the bodybuilding department, boy, I'll tell you, this town has talent to burn. ...._,____ ___.._ .,_1,,._... D ........+.l-a.,. had 39 out on the upper course on a beautiful day. Ron Gardner and Romeo DiBiasio were in charge of a round of Bingo, Bango, Bongo, hidden bole, high and longest putt on number eight. You might question this last one, but if you've ever played it you would know that it takes a pretty good shotmaker to bold bis putt on that new green, anyway, John Piva took the honors for eleven points in B.B.B. followed by Peter Huse, Morris SaWYer, .Don Krug and Carl Seefeldt with 10 points each, the ' longest putt on the same hole was won by Joe Biagioni with a 10 foot downhiller, Guy Morey had the good fortune to do the right thing on the correct bole, he had an eight on number seven, while your writing friend had a nine on number six. Next week we shall have a Rossland duo at the helm, Bart Dudley and Carl Osing. Who knows what they will dream up. Carl suggested putters only - I really don't know about him. Next week at this time I shall be up at JCalamalk.a Lake on what our family tenns a reunion. It will be the first time that mom and I and our kids have been all together since they started raising their families. Rick, the oldest, has three young ones; he and bis wife Peggy will be coming up from Brooks, Alta., with their two girls and a boy. David and bis wife Diane also have a couple of youngsters, both girls and. live in North Vancouver, while our daughter carol is married to a Rossland boy, Bud Hartley, and they have also got three children, again two girls and a boy. They live in North Surrey. w~ shall spend three days with them at the lake a short distance from Vernon. On Tuesday evening a general meeting was held at the Rossland Legion attended by a record number of people who have the welfare of the branch foremost in their minds at this time. They voted to serve notice to their striking employees and lock-out will take effect over the weekend. They voted to serve notice to their striking employees and lock-out will take effect over the weekend. There was never much doubt about where the majority of the membership stood when it came to showing the executive they had a lot of confidence in the way this situation has been handled. A whole lot of people who do not attend all Legion functions for one reason or another, flocked into the meeting room downstairs to give their support to their branch. One unpleasant aspect of this situation is the distribution of scab literature by some of the striking members, the people who did this did not take into consideration the fact that everyone who thinks enough of the Legion to pay dues and play a part in the organization is a part-owner of the building and as such is only protecting their own property by crossing that picket line. Till next week, then!
