Canada, . ato learn of the appointment. He has - Week Beginning Monday. Mch 28 1898 ‘ TURNED DOWN AND OUT. ~ Yukon Rallway Bill Defeated by the Domin- Senate. Ottawa, April 1—The senate turned down the Stickeen-Teslin lake railwuy today. + The yankee lobbyists who have been at Ottawa since the session opened have done their work thoroughly and there was no longer any possibility of the pas- sage of the bill. Notonly so but they ‘poisoned the minds of the senators againat an all-Canadian route to an ex- tent that the public can have no appre- ciation of, The only thing that might have'saved the bill from the partisan spirit invoked in the senate again it would have been an overwhelming pres- gure from mercantile and manufacturing interests. That pressure has not been applied, and it is only now that business men are beginning to understand that the defeat of the bill means the triumph of the American traders, When the business men of the country fully realize the altuation, they will make remarke about the senate quite unfit for publica- tion. Then perhaps they will join the movement to punish the upper chamber for what is little short of treason to —— HON. JUDGE COOPER. ROSSLAND'S Men Who Advertise in The Record. SOLID BUSINESS MEN.
