Our congratulations go out to David and Sandra Lee Markin on the birth of their first baby on Jan. 3rd, 1993. Our first meeting of the New Year was held on Jan. 18th, at 7:30 p.m. in the hospital board room. President Pat Popoff called the meeting to order followed by our Hospital Auxiliary Prayer. Two new members were wel- comed to the Auxiliary, Ann Cheong and Kelli Sherbinin. Reports from various committees were presented. Norma McDonald reported 762 volunteer hours were recorded in the gift shop at the hospital. Mary Gemmill reported 295 volun- teer hours with the cart. Knitting was reported by Mabel McGilvray. We have one very active knitter inside the Auxiliary, Shirley Sommers, and three active knitters outside the Auxiliary. They are Irene Batchelor, Donna Archibald and Hazel Chernoff. The Auxiliary does provide the wool for the knitters. Any- one interested in knitting may contact our president. Joan Martini and Ruth Kozub reported on the crafts. They have been coming in from various Auxiliary members. Our flower arrangements are done by Kate Varabioff. A report from Trish Waldie — our Candy Striper co-ordi- nator — stated that 35 volunteers have signed up for this pro- gram, which is sponsored by the Hospital Auxiliary and is in full swing. They are volunteering in Mountain View Lodge and in the acute-care wing of the hospital. We appreciate the co-operation we received from Clara Ger- rand and Chery] Bonowitz for getting this program off to a good start. Kelly Davidoff, our bursary recipient, has acknowledged us for her award of $350. Our West Kootenay Area Representa- tive, Muriel Wilson, reminded us of the Presidents Institute Conference to be held in Vancouver, Feb. 19. President Popoff and First-vice Marion Burton will be attending. Sixty-one fruit baskets and nine carnations in vases were prepared by Joan Martini, Marion Burton, Kay Shields, Tony Ackney and guest, and Dorothy Martini. These were delivered on Christmas morning. The Hospital Auxiliary Treasure Shop recorded 5,500 vol- unteer hours. Five hundred of these hours were recorded by our spouses and the men that volunteered their time from within the community. There are 33 full-time volunteers that work every week in the Hospital Auxiliary Treasure Shop. We thank our spares, too! We appreciate the support the Auxiliary received from the community. We are open Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations are always wel- comed. Our phone number at the Hospital Auxiliary Treasure Shop is 365-7317 or you may call 365-6587. Remember that our first year of service within the commu- nity will be March 20th. We plan to have a anniversary sale. See you there. Our meeting are held every third Monday of the month. The next meeting will be on Feb. 15, 1993 at 7 p.m. in the hospi- tal board room. New members are always welcome. For any information regarding the Hospital Auxiliary, please contact Popoff at 365-8302. President Popoff thanked all the active volunteers within the auxiliary. On behalf of the Hospital Auxiliary, she would like the Castlegar and district communities to know that we do appreciate all of their support. Without our community we would not be here...
