prised at Ben Ledi’s winning, and no
one more than the owner, Mr. Kennedy.
She won the half-mile race with’ ease.

occasion between F. C, Morris, of World’s
fair fame, and’ “Smith the Swift,” from.

The C. & W. and the Mining Compaules Re-
fuse to Give Out Results,

The ore shipments from the Le Roi
for the week ending July 15 was 1,039

the C. & W., the agent, upon the ordera
of the superintendent, declining to give
them out, bet we'can make a much
closer guess than the morning paper
made, which gives itat 780 tonsa. There
were 48 cars of ore shipped to ‘Trail last
week, or about 1,440 tons. One of the
reasons the railroad authorities give for
declining to give out the shipments ia
that the Miner bas persistently misrep-
resenitd the facta, and upon several
occasions gave as an excuse for more
ore not being shipped that the C. & W.
was not able to handle it, which has
never been true. Another is, that the
railroad company holds that it has no
right to give the public the results of
the ore shipments withont the consent
of the shippers, which it at present has
not got. When the tangle is straightened
out and the Recorp can give correct
