News photos by Glen Freeman Saturday, July 18, 1992 @ ‘m Saturday, July 18, 1992 Lutheran women gather ‘In Jubilant Celebration’ @ Alberta and B.C. representatives gather in Vernon for annual meeting of the [WML “In Jubilant Celebration” was the theme of the 21st Bi- ennial Convention of the Lutheran Women’s Mission- ary League of the Alberta- British Columbia District, held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vernon. The three day meeting was held on July 4 to 6. Louise Ferworn attended as the delegate for St. Peter Lutheran Church of Castle- gar. The opening was a Festival Communion Service at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The preacher was Reverend Harold Clark of Leduc, Alta., who has been the District LWML counselor for the past four years. He also conducted the Bible studies on Sunday and Mon- day. Guest speaker for the con- vention and banquet was the International President of LWML, Ida Mall from Mid- land, Mich. Mall presented each society with a commem- orative charter in honor of the All projects are funded by collection of MITES on the lo- cal level. Each woman attending the convention was asked to bring an item for a kit for women’s shelters. Local societies col- lected items and delivered them to their shelters. ‘The objectives of the LWML are to promote a greater love of our Saviour, through Bible studies, and to encourage each lady to use her talents and gifts’ 50th anniversary of the inter- national organization. The delegation voted on nine mission projects, include- ing monies for New Testament Bibles, Bible studies and wit- ness tracts in the Russian and Ukranian languages to be dis- tributed in Russia, and for Christian schools, and ethnic groups in Canada. The kits collected at con- vention will be given to shel- ters in Vernon and Kelowna. The objectives of the LWML ‘are to promote a greater love of our Saviour, through Bible studies, and to encourage each lady of the Lutheran-Church Canada to use her talents and gifts in ministry to the people of the world. IN MEMORY Alfred Woodward Alfred “Woody” Woodward, aged 77, of Castlegar died July 11, 1992 at Trail Region- al Hospital. Woodward was born in Hamilton, Ont. February 4, 1915 and moved to Rossland in 1920. He joined Cominco in 1930 and married Edith Armishaw in 1937. After serving two years in the air force as a radio technician, Woodward returned to Rossland. He re-joined Cominco in 1945 and stayed there until he retired from the pure metals plant in 1980. Woodward was active in community affairs and was instrumental in successfully raising funds for the Blueberry Creek Community Recreation Park. He enjoyed golfing and boating. Woodward was predeceased by his sister Vivian. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Edith, his three children, seven grand- children and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service for close family member was held on July 14 at the Woodward resi- dence in Blueberry Creek with the Reverend Jim Vietch officiating. Cremation has taken place. Donations to a charity of one’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family as an ex- pression of sympathy.
