THE WINE CLERKS WIN Good Ball Game Euds in Victory Over the Barbers The baseball game between the barbers and wine clerks yesterday, for the benefit of the Sandon relief fund drew a large crowd to the ball ground and made a good addition to the city’s contribution for San- don. The wine clerks won by a score of 16 to 15. Matthews, the winners’ shart stop, once knocked the ball over the fence and the game , was generally marked by hard hitting. Bridgeford raised a laugh at his expense by missing an easy catch. There were several changes of players during the game. The score was as follows: “"WINE CLERKS. | BARBERS ‘O'Shea, tb. O,Connell, c. The controlling interest in- the stock of the Giant has been bought by: a. company of Philadelphia and people, repr d by G. W. Armstrong of Spokane. Of the 2,506,000 shares, 500,000 were put in the treasury and 1,050,- ooo were bought in the first instance by the néw owners on a basis of seven cents. C. O'Brien Reddin, of this city, then set to work on the Spokane exchange to gather in the Joose stock for them. He started buying at two and one-half cents and his purchiise soon ran the price up to three cents, buyer Go. Then offering ceased until he offered 4 cents, buyer 60, for any quantity. He continued buying until he had gathered in nearly 40,000 shares at prices ranging as high as 434 cents, buyer Go. After the Spokane syndicate headed by Col. W. M. Ridpath and E, D. Saunders had dropped their bond,’ an examination was made by .an eastern expert, on whose report Mr. Armstrong's company toold_up. the proposition. This expert is on his. way out here to direct resumption of work, as soon as the company has been re- organized at a meeting to be held in Spokane this week. Only a small amount of stock remains loose on the market. The effect of the movement in the stock on the Spokane market began to be felt here on Saturday, when 10,000 shares were sold at 2%c and 10,000 at 3c, while on Friday 2500 had sold at only 2c and only 2{cwas asked. Sales yes- terday were made at 3c and 3c and the price asked at the close was only 3%c. Thus the Rossland market has all along been away be- low that of Spokane.
