A$ part of the renovations and facade tives from local were able to make the ceremony. Part of the problem, said one city staffer, was the timing of the ceremony, held during regular working hours. Nonetheless, Castlegar Mayor Mike O'Connor spoke of the awards, and made the pre- sentations to the six who were able to attend: Bob MacBain from the Royal Canadian Legion; Anne Jones from Plot- nikoff, Jones, Perehudoff Law Office; Larry Bosse from Bosse’s Jewellery; Peter Vatkin from West's Department Store; Tom Oglow from Oglow Paint and Floorcoverings and Ron Ross from Emco Engineering. The small ceremony began with a cheque presentation by Rossland-Trail MLA Ed Conroy, who handed over $359,000 towards the city’s ongoing revital- ization project. A further $30,000 is also on it’s way. “I guess the cheque is ‘in the mail’,”’ joked O’Connor. Both Conroy and O'Connor talked of the long-term benefits that revitalization would bring the city of Castlegar. “Revitalization, coupled with the new bridge, will do wonders for the community,” said Conroy. “It truly makes Castlegar the Jewel of the Kootenays.” O'Connor added that although the ‘clean and green’ theme of revite is not evident right now (due to ongoing construction), it soon will be and when that hap- pens, the downtown will be a pleasurable place to shop. “Everybody deserves a big pat on the back,” said O'Connor.
