Established as the Castlegar Industrial Commission two years ago, the board's primary goal at that time was to sell lots in the city’s industrial park. Despite tremendous’ hard work in which the commis- sion rewrote the industrial park brochure, it had limited success finding new tenants. However, the commission managed to secure federal funding for an infrastructure bulding. As many as 12 resi- dents were employes to con- struct the building, which was then leased to a local business that wanted to expand. The business em- ploys additional people in larger location in the indus- trial park. But after two years, the commission decided-a—new direction was needed and es- tablished the following goals: e to form a ‘non-profit society to obtain autonomy and a new name (the Castle- gar and District Develop- ment Board): to form a storefront office sufficient staff; to hold a public meeting it was held in May, 1986 where several ‘sub-commit- tees were formed); ‘# to publicize, promote and “sell” Castlegar as a prime industrial area; @ to increase occupancy in the industrial park; eto elected bodies informed of the board's ac- tivities; @ to co-operate and work with special economic impact groups and interested organ- izations; @ to investigate the feasi- bility of establishing an cubator” facility in the area; e to establish an economic strategy plan for the Castle- gar area. The Board, provides the following services from its storefront location on Col-* umbia Ave.: © consultation with busi- ness and industrial clients; @ community liaison and communications; « civie group assistance, communications and public relations; ¢ administration of certain federal and provincial gov- ernment programs; enhancing economic de- velopment for the Castlegar are STRENGTH AND CONTENT West K Concrete top quality West K Concrete near Fairview has only been in the concrete market here a short time, but it ensures custom- ers top quality concrete. ‘The ready mix plant began construction in April of 1984 and was producing ready mix conerete by April, 1985.
