(CP) — It took 31 years, but
Olga Wagner is finally Mrs.
Karpov.

Wagner and her long-dis-
tance lover Vladimir Karpov,
both 51, were reunited two
weeks ago after meeting in
Karpov’'s native Soviet Union
in 1957,

__'They were married in the

courthouse of this southern
Ontario city Monday.

In his careful English,
weighed down by a heavy
Russian accent, he uttered
his first words after sealing
their wedding vows with a
kiss.

“Mrs. Karpov,” he said.
It was Olga’s second mar-
riage and Vladimir's third.

He has been working on his
English diligently since he
arrived on an Aeroflot flight
from Moscow two weeks ago,
said Olga.

‘Two of the words he knows

already are “husband” and
“wife.”

Olga and Viadimir met in
Moscow when she was a stu-
dent from Czechoslovakia on
a trip and he was a navy
cadet.

They fell in love and
promised to write, but their
letters were returned un-
opened — they suspect by
governments trying to cut off
contact between the two
countries,

They both married others,
and Olga immigrated to Can-
ada with her journalist hus-
band and two children, set-
tling in Ottawa.

She heard from Vladimir
again in 1985, after his
second marriage failed and
he spent his summer vacation
searching for her in her home
town of Brno.
