IN MENORY Lois Grace Haviland On Saturday, June 20, 1992, Lois Grace Haviland of Castlegar passed away at the age of 66 years after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Haviland was born March 3, 1926 at Dryden, Ont. She lived in Thunder Bay and Sudbury areas and mar- ried Charles Haviland at Thunder Bay on September 16, 1950. After their marriage they moved to Terrace Bay, Ont. and came to Castlegar in 1960. They lived at Passmore from 1965. until returning to Castlegar in 1990. From 1962 until 1972 Mrs. Haviland worked for Moran and Company as a legal stenographer. She enjoyed trav- elling and camping. She is survived by her husband Charles, one son, Tom of Ootischenia, three daughters, Joanne Hargreaves of Thunder Bay, Charlene Haviland-Dafoe of Port Perry, Ont., and Laura Lee Sutherland of Meadow Creek, B.C., 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter and one sister, Joan White of Oshawa, Ont. A gathering of family and friends was held at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 24, 1992 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Cremation has taken place and the burial of the ashes will take place in the family plot in Thunder Bay. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cancer Fund, Box 3292, Castlegar, B.C. Funeral and cremation arrangements were under the direction of the Castlegar Funeral Chapel. Frank Robakowski On Thursday, June 18, 1992, Frank Robakowski of Castlegar passed away at the age of 68 years. Funeral service will be held at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 26, 1992 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ira Johnson officiating. Cremation has taken place. Mr. Robakowski was born April 2, 1924 in Poland and came to Whiskey Gap, Alta., with his parents at the age of five. ae He grew up in the Whiskey Gap and Calgary area before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Army and serving in World War II. After his hitch in the army, he lived in the Southern Alberta area until moving to Castlegar in 1956. During his life he worked in construction, building roads and dams while operating drag lines, shovels and cranes. : He was a member of the Local 115 Operating Engineers, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 170 and, as hob- bies, he enjoyed gardening and repairing lawn mowers. Mr. Robakowski is survived by his two daughters and sons in law Judy and Larry Gorrie of West Fernie and Linda and Brian Henderson of Elkford, two grandchildren, Christine and Gayle, one great grandchild, John Jr., one brother, John of Calgary and two sisters, Helen Dougall of Calgary and Marion Jager of Fort McMurray. The Aquanauts finished first at t @ Local swim clubs impress respective coaches with weekend peformances at annual River Otters meet Jonathan Green SPORTS REPORTER Six swim clubs converged on the Coralea Scheupfer Pool over the weekend, and local swimmers did the Castlegar area proud. Receiving gold medal perfor- mances from five different team members, the Castlegar Aqua- nauts took first place in the annu- al Robson River Otters Swim Meet with a total score of 323 - 25 bet- ter than Colville, Wash. The host Otters took third with 232, living up to coach Tara Paul- hus’ expectations. “We wanted to come in the top two, top three,” she said. “The club really pulled together for the meet.” In all, Aquanaut swimmers took home 13 medals from Robson, while the Otters ended the day with seven, including two gold and two silver. “The kids had a great attitude,” Paulhus said. “They performed great.” Equally happy was Aquanaut coach Wendy Pilla. Silver medals went to Danielle Jmieff, Graeme Redecop and Cheryl] Ellis, while Alana Pion, Clayton Bonin, Kris Kanigan and Averil Sheppard collected bronze. Over at the Otters camp, Torrie Lahue won gold in Division 6 Girls and coach Paulhus did the same in Division 7 Girls. Seamus Donahue and Jerred Moberg took silver medals while Justin Sutherland, Brian Beck- stead and Devin La Hue won bronze. The Aquanauts will send some 15 swimmers to a meet in Kelow- na this weekend, while the Otters will skip the Okanagan to prepare for the next meet in Trail.
