Time of day can also be a factor. The coldest tem- peratures occur at dawn cre- ating early morning frost.” “These conditions can be- come hazardous since there may still be no frost in the sur- rounding areas and drivers may not be expecting slippery conditions. “It is very important to point out this seasonal hazard and alert travellers to antici- pate this situation when ap- proaching bridges.” Tourists gather in Grand Forks The Kootenay Country Tourist Association will be holding its 1992 Annual General Meet- ing in Grand Forks Nov. 27th & 28. CLASSIFIED ADS 365-7266 Or write: Box 3007, Castlegar, B.C. V1N 3H4 @ Saturday, November 21, 1992 Everybody needs to find their king Who is your king? Even though kings may seem to exist only in the murky mists of ancient histo- ry, each of us has a king. In the sense of some power or dominant force that rules our life. Of course, we may insist that we are free to do as we please. And in a certain sense we are. We may make nay number of choices each and every day. We may decide whether we want to purchase a Ford or a Toyota. To grow a beard or to remain clean-shaven. Other choices may not be so inconsequential. One husband and father who chose to over-indulge in his job eventually found him- self alienated from his wife and children. A wife who chose to give in to her weak- ness to shop and shop and shop, finally finding herself and her family in serious fi- nancial straits. You may wish to add to this list. Let’s face it. While we are all following some path in life, some of us may feel pushed in directions we may not really want to follow. Directions that soon reveal themselves to be destructive. Far from being free, we are apparently dominated by some force we find ourselves too weak to resist. We need a king. That is, we need someone to lead, guide and sometimes to give us a shove. Someone to turn us around whenever some old ruinous urge grabs us. By the grace of God there is such a king in the person of Jesus Christ. While the thought of any royalty, espe- cially these days, may leave us with a bad taste, this par- ticular king stands alone. BIRTHS Pulpit & Pew St. Peter Lutheran Church Rev. Glen BACKUS Niminikin — To Cathy and Robert Niminikin of South Slocan, a girl born Nov. 17 at Kootenay Lake District Hospital in Nelson. Take 5 minutes that may save 5 lives ... Tell your family your wishes about organ and tissue donation. BUSINESS DIRECTORY Copy Deadline for November — 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 » 365-7266 While others who strive for rulership have frequently done so through the use of force or some kind of wheeling and dealing, this king is most unique. His kingship was es- tablished not, for example, by brutally shedding the blood of others but rather by willing- ly shedding His own blood. And doing so in a very de- grading manner on Calvary’s cross. And all of that for a bunch of undeserving rebels like us! So that He could rescue us from being enslaved by cer- tain Dark Forces intent on our ruin and replace that with the power of His saving love. Which is_ exerted through the Good News of His forgiveness and gift of Life in the Gospel. Many of our Christian churches will conclude their observance of our present Church Year this Sunday with a focus on Christ, the King. He who gave His life for you and rose again on the third day seeks to take you on a path which spells life. And one day He will confront us in His glory to bring all of hu- man history to its climactic close.
