Doreen Levitt reported on the up- coming Christmas tea and bazaar to be held in the Legion Hall on Nov. 24 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Committees are busy making Preparations for the event. Finch held an Honors Night for all Present past and present worthy matrons and worthy patrons. They were presented in the east, given honors and each was given a gift. A discussion was held regarding a Christmas celebration. This will be a dinner held in a local restaurant. In Place of individual Christmas gifts, a money tree will be donated with Proceeds to go to the Cancer Fund. A motion was passed to give $25 to the Cancer Fund in memory of sister Ellen Armstrong. A motion was passed to purchase a $25 wreath to be presented at the Legion’s memorial service in Castlegar by Levitt. All officers, members and visiting members were given a warm welcome by Finch and by brother Clarence Ackerman and all were asked to share in the social time at the close of the meeting. Three members were presented in the west and given a birthday greeting. A coin march was held followed by the regular closing of the chapter. Mrs. Storgaard was born in Hybo, Sweden, on July 2, 1903. She emigrated with her family to Canada in 1910, where they settled in Speers, Sask. She married Fred Storgaard in 1920 and they moved to the Slocan Valley where they resided until their deaths, Mrs. Storgaard took a keen interest in all that went on in the . She was a member of long standing of the Slocan Institute, having joined when it was formed in.1926. She received a life membership certificate and pin in appreciation of her unselfish devotion to work for the betterment of the club. Mrs. Storgaard was a past noble grand of Floral Rebekah Lodge No. J5 and served as district deputy president from 1952 to 1953. She enjoyed quilting and took great pride in all her cactus plants, teaching to all who asked many knitting, rug-hooking, and crochet stitches and was well known for her “‘oup of tea.’’ She is survived by her son Winston of Stocan; daughters Freda Giffin of Olympia, Wash., and Elsie Robison of Vernon; 10 i and 13 gr i Mrs. Storgaard was predeceased by her husband Fred in 1964 and a daughter, Ann Murphy, in 1981. By Mrs. Storgaard’s request there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place. Paul Sookachoff Paul Sookachoff of Kelowna, B.C., passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 1990, at age 44. Mr. Sookachoff was born July 22, 1946, at Nelson and grew up in Castlegar ing from Stanley Hi ies secondary school in 1964. He graduated from the B.C. Institute of Technology as a civil engineering technologist in 1966. He worked for the federal Department of Fisheries for many years and on various construction Projects. He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Ann and Leanne; Diane of Delta; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Phil and Ann Sookachoff, and Cyril and Helen Sookachoff of Castlegar; two nieces and two nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Nick, in 1977 and his mother, Polly, in 1983. Private family services were held on Tuesday with burial at Park Memorial Cemetery. a No flowers by request.
