This is the news of today in regard to the war. There are two versions of how it” happened. The London dis- patch says the town was relieved. The Pretoria dispatch says the Boers abandoned the siege. Judg- ing by past experience, the Boers have not given the true version of the facts. But, whichever version is correct, the siege is at an end and with it comes an end of active hostilities on British territory. The successful termination of his long struggle makes Col. Baden- Powell the hero among the many heroes of the war. Far off from all hope of help, in the heart of a coun- try where the enemy held full sway, he kept the flag flying with the aid of a body of hastily recruited colo- nials; he kept it flying in the face of repeated assaults; he kept, up his brave heart and his men's hearts long after hunger had begun to weaken their bodies.
