Asin Old Macdonald Had a Farm, there was a quick- quack here and a quack-quack there from Sanderson’s 15 ducks and 30 chickens; a cackle from her nine geese; a few squawks from her peacock and his two mistresses and a Anroaty bleat from Billy the Goat—all on tape. At a preliminary court. hearing in this suburb of London, the neighbors said living next lo Sanderson's farm was absolute bedlam. Justice Walton told them that, if they played the tapes in court, they must provide their own apparatus, “We all know these days what erasure of tapes can do," the judge said, and set down the hearing for a later date. Outside the court, San- derson said: “Some of my neighbors wouldn't know the difference between one of my ducks, a sereech owl or a fox. They blame me for all the noises, allhough there is a farm across the road and a spinney at the bottom of the garden. A mission was sent to Moroceo by the London-based human rights organization to investigate reports that girls as young as seven were being used as cheap labor to fuel Morocco's booming exports of carpets to Canada, the United States, West Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, France, and Belgium, Its report said conditions in private factories and work- shops were generally poor and many of the children looked under-nourished and over- worked. By contrast, conditions in the government-owned workshops were much hetter, it said. The report said most of the child workers under 12 in the private seclor were classed as apprentices and paid little or nothing for long hours of labor. Those who were paid received enough money lo buy a loaf of bread every day. The organization called on the Moroccan government to extend ils control over private factories to bring them up to at least the better standards existing in state factories. The Anti-Slavery Society, founded in 1839, works for the eradication of slavery, servile forced labor and other viola- lions of human rights. Urgent Action Needed To Eliminate Diseases An international confer- ence held recently in England called for urgent action to stamp out eye diseases which have left about 40 million people blind, Eye experts from 44 coun- tries pledged at the end of the three-day conference to do everything in their power to stimulate governmental and inter-governmental action. They were meeting in the first. general assembly of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). Delegates told the gather- ing that most of the blindness in the world was preventable and much of it curable. . They were told that unless decisive action was taken, blindness in developing coun- tries could treble in less than fifty years, Conference sources said the experts felt adequate tech- nology exists to reduce the four together account for 80 per cent of the blindness in developing countries. The four diseases are trachoma, xerophthalmia, :on- . chocerciasis and cataract, Delegates were told that about 250,000 children go blind each year due to vitamin deficiency. 14’ Boat with 35 HP.
