6-Trail Times-Friday, April 16, 1982 wil ,.... a.ry Recently we saw the windup of all winter activities in Rossland except for two. They are, in order of popu]arity, skiing and snowshovelllng. When we held our Retirees curling windup there were those who were · contemplating a visit to the golf course on the following day, however the weathennan had other ideas and he has seen fit to put a considerable damper on our thoughts along those lines. I had a chat with Bob Ir- vine recently and he told me the fairways are in reksonably good shape but the greens are beautiful. Sounds good. Hope we get out there this week. I asked Bob how soon he thought the Upper Course would be ready. As he left he said over his shoulder, "In about a month." On March 31 I was invited to the Minor Hockey windup supper and presentation of awards. President Gary Holm told of an excellent season. The Minor Hockey · program in Rossland is very much alive. The people who support it are very dedicated and have been into it for some time. The program will never be a big one since we do not have a large population and the other programs are also attractive to you youngsters. Gary Holm heads up a hard-working bunch of people; Chris Ling is secretary, Maurice May. The first thing we know we shall be into the baseball season, soccer, swimming, etc. Of course, we still have hockey playoffs in the NHL and some minor champs to be declared. On the agenda for at least another month, people all over are starting to make their fearless predictions on the Stanley Cup. The Rossland Labatts are going to go all out this season to see if they can come up with a wiMer. I see a number of prospective players working ot by running and the team will encourage a youth movement. This method seemed to do the job for the Trail boys and no doubt the Labatts are thinking along those lines too, if you should wish to give it a try why not contact Armindo DeMedeiros at 364-1473 or Joe Hughes at 362-5118.
