Three Candidates for the Mayoralty Placed in Nomination. Yesterday was nomination day for the city election at Grand Forks. There were three candidates for the mayoralty. Robert Hewitt, W. K. 0. Manly and P. * T. McCallum. McCallum was. beaten: last spring by John A. Manly. Robert Hewitt is alderman and W. K. C. Manly a brother of the present mayor. As there are but 52 votes in the town the fighting will be at close range and no doubt hot. Jeff Davis, J. W. Jones, J. L. Wise- man, Robert Petre, John Donaldson and placed in County Court Proceedings. ‘The county court was engaged nearly all day yesterday in the action brought by W. K. Semple against the Columbia & Western railway to recover some $200 alleged to be due him on salary. The railway produced a counter account of about the same amount, which it claim- ed Mr. Semple had collected but had not turned in to the company. The jury gave a Verdict of 423 and costs to the plaintiff. The Kootenay Brewing company’s cage has been indefinitely enlarged. The Bank of Montreal hag filled exceptions to some of the rulings of Judge Forin in the cage, on the grounds that he ex- ceeded his authority. The case will come up before the supreme court at Victoria. Custom House Moved.
