The change in the time card will probably take place thie month, and when that is done, a leaving Vancouver at 2 o'clock will reach Nelson or Roesland at g o'clock p. m. the following day, thus making the whole journey in about 3) hours. Thie will make the C. P. R. route both more expeditious and com- fortable than by way of Spokane, and should result in a large sddition to the solume of travel. At present Neleon is not reached until about noon of the sec- ond day after Jeaving Vancouver. This office and the citizens of. this yicinity are constantly re- ceiving iaquiries concerning this section of the country which are difficuit to answer by letter, so the Recorpgives the following information for the beneht of all: Rossland is situated in British Columbia, eight miles from the international boundary line be- tween Canada and the United * Icis reached from the the Uanadian Pacific to Arrowiead,* on the Columbia river, from there ty Trail by stermer, and from Trail to Ross- land by tke Columbia & Westero railway. Fron the south via Spokane, Washington, by the Spokane Falls & Northern and Columbia & Red Mountain railways, Rossland has forty hotels, with bars, eating and lodging rvoms, and a dozen restaurants. There are three weekly news- papers and two dailies. All other branches of business are well represented. ‘The popula- tion is variously estimated from 6000 to 7500. Board and lodging at the ho- tels, $2 to $3 per day. Meals 25 to 50 cents. Furnished rooms, $2.50 to $7 per week. It is useless to write and ask ifany particular business would pay here. . Everybody must be his own judge and take his own chances, While there is not work tor all who iaquire, most sober, indus- trious persons who really wish to work have eo far been able to obtain it. We would not advise any man to land here ‘‘broke” without friends, although many who have done go are doing well. . This camp is now settling business basis. rental purposes, staking prospectors. f here simply looking on in won- derment. We believe it.will go on and on until Rossland can boast of a population of 50,000. After that it will probably settle down to # proposition of @ pay roll but not for a few years. There are plenty of money here from alll sections of the globe; but the privcipal investors are from the United States, with Canada largely interested. The history of the camp reads like a fairy tale, and the fabulous riches are scarcely excelled by the imaginary “King Solomon's Mines,” We will not sttempt to discuss the mines in u single ar- ticle, as we have been writing about them for uearly three years and have not been able to Lc > up witn them.
