Amy’s trial took place in June, 1917. Although the i to proceed with five charges, it was ruled that only one charge could be presented at one time. The State chose the case of Fran! Andrews. Andrews’ body had been exhumed, and his vital organs were found to contain large quan- tities of arsenic. The prosecution followed up by proving that Amy had purchased arsenic a short prosecution wantet the Amy Archer-Gilligan case to reach its conclu- sion. In the end no one really knew how many victims of the 48 deaths which occurred at the Archer Home were due to natural causes. Still, there are those who believe that Amy gave every one of the 48 victims a gentle push toward the grave. If so, Amy was one of the most prolific female mass mur- derers of all time. (c) 1981 Canada Wide Feature Services Limited time before Andrews’ death, ostensibly to kill rats in her home. It was even proven that the Archer Home was singularly free of rodents of any kind. But Homebuyers With innovative solution TORONTO (CP) — With thousands of prospective Canadian homebuyers strapped by high interest rates, realtors, builders and homebuyers are coming up with innovative solutions to beat the bank. _ Airport bus service Embree asked the company to investigate a convenient location in the downtown area instead. The company will also take a look at the overall service it could provide and costs, and return to council with the in- formation. If costs indicate the bus service is not fea- sible, the company may ask council to subsidize the ser- vice. The solutions range from simple shared ownership of homes to complex three-way mortgage transactions. But the aim of all the schemes is to allow both sellers and buyers to avoid the crippling interest rates paid to the bank. Realtor David Gold, who has purchased a one-third interest in a downtown Tor- onto home, cut his costs by sharing it with two friends. Each lives in one portion of the house and if one wants to move out, he can sell his share to another. party. New home builder Hugh Heron is offering buyers of his Toronto homes up to $10,000 — the cost of his sales ion —on the who want to buy a home from him already, own their own home and his scheme helps them to sell it. Other builders are also considering similar schemes, FINANCES MORTGAGE Mortgage broker Penny Baillie has heard of lawyers arranging mortgages for two people — both with regis- tered retirement savings plans and both needing mort- gages — to finance each other’s mortgage with the sizable sums accumulated in the savings plans. The scheme-gets around a federal regulation prohibit- ing people from using regis- tered plans to finance their mortgages by trading sa- vings to put toward the 554 sale of their present. home when they buy a new one from him. Heron said most people Sadie Moranis, president of the Toronto Real Estate Board, estimates 70 to,75 per’ cent. of current home sales have the seller helping the buyer with finacing, usually by taking back a mortgage at less than current rates. Another type of scheme she knows of works this way: Jones wants to sell his home and buy another. Smith wants to buy Jones's home but needs a $50,000 mort- gage. Meanwhile, Jones wants to buy Brown's home but realizes if he gives Smith a $50,000 mortgage, he'll be short and will have to ask Brown for a $50,000 mort- gage. Instead of giving Smith a $50,000 mortgage and get- ting another $50,000 mort- gage from Brown, Jones gets Brown to give Smith a 4$50,000 mortgage. Jones now gets all cash for his home and pays full cash for Brown's home, thereby ‘paying the osts: of only one mortgage instead of two. Looking at Park Road sidewalks Castlegar council has agreed to look into install- ing a sidewalk down the north side of 24th Street (Park Road) for children at- tending Kinnaird elementary school. The move followed a rec- ommendation from the works and services committee. Committee had earlier met with three Highland Drive residents who had requested closing off 24th Street be- tween Kinnaird Park and Park Land subdivision from 8 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. and 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. The residents said they wanted the road closed for the safety of their children walking down Park Road to school. However, committee pointed out that closing the road at any time creates problems — the major one being access for emergency vehicles such as fire, ambu- lance and police. The residents asked that council consider any possible solution to the issue because of the great concern for the safety of the children walking in the area. New lights at ferry on ‘hold’ By CasNews Staff Castlegar residents will apparently have to wait still longer for a new set of traffic lights at the Castlegar ferry apreach. A works and services com- mittee. report to council re- cently indicated the provin- cial highways ministry has refused to give the green light to council’s request to upgrade the signals to the approach, In a letter to council, highways noted that based on traffic counts full signals are not warranted. It added the request falls “very low” on the overall provincial sig- nalization program. However, council will send another letter to highways — this time asking if accident claims were considered in its decision. “Council considers this an important indication in such an evaluation,” said the report. Council also asked the dis- trict highways manager to improve road markings at the ferry. Winning Provincial number The Oct. 16 Provincial winning ticket number is 2812375.
