will! lla'ry PIIIP'f The big news this week was the Grey Cup story. I listened to all the postmortems and after combining them with what I saw myself, I arrived at the following swnmary. The Lions dominated the first half and could very easily have added at least another touchdown during that part of the game. When the Argos lost Conredge Holloway at the half, it looked iike the Lions would be home-free, but Joe Barnes came on and really made bis presence fell He did not do everything right I but be did move the Argos. The Lions, after their first half domination, couldn't get going. Barnes' persistence paid off and be put one drive together to go ahead by one poinL It was 18-17 and the game was won. My opinion, for what it's worth, was that · the fans enjoyed a game in which the team which put • .the most into it came away . with the win. We, in the Rossland Legion, enjoyed the telecast at a brunch in the lower ball with around 50 in attendance. It was quite a noisy party as opposition 0 fans applauded their team's ; efforts. President Bernie 1 Fourt led a crew of kitchen help that consisted of ear1 Seefeldt, Jim Brown, Bob Glover, George Eastcott and this writer, to prepare a very well-received meal for the guests, while earl Osing, Ron Young, Chuck Harkness 1 and Jack Cox beaded a group who served up the refreshments. All in all, it was a very pleasant way to spend Grey Cup Sunday. 1 The Warriors last week dropped three in a row and suffered two injuries. Gordie Stanton cut bis foot in . Till next week, then! Beaver Valley. Add to this, who, along with the sponGary Cahoon, with a broken sorship of the Royal leg and one can see the team Canadian Legion, Branch is hurting. This weekend, the Ackerman, Brenda Warriors will play host to Grand Forks on Friday and travel to Nelson Saturday. We can only hope the rest of the team stays healthy and the injuries of the rest heal quickly. The only game I saw last week was the Friday night game versus Beaver Valley and Rossland's power play seemed to be sadly lacking. Time and time again they enjoyed a man-power advantage and the Nite Hawks stymied them, a few times with just three players. Rob Trusdale came up with some sparkling saves. Added entertainment at that game was music by the Rebekah Rhythm Band, better known as the Granny Band, a group of elderly Rouland ladies who have played together for some time. Their music sparkled along with their personalities. In the banner department, it was Donna Johnson, the winner for an effort that said "Tomahawk those Nite · Hawks" and honorable mention went to the Rouland cheerleaders led by Golden City Queen Tara Holmes. In the other events over the past weekend, the mixed curlers had a one-day's 'spiel. It was well attended and from what I bear, it must have been quite a party going on until the early hours of Sunday morning. Anyway, when the smoke had cleared.. Jim Bateman was the-;-'A.J winner. Jhn had Helen Blackie at third, Bert Morrow as bis second and Joyce Woods throwing lead rocks. Runner-up in "A" was the Jon Holm rink. In the "B" side it was the John Habicht foursome, winning out over Mike Kraftchick's rink.
