I was time keeper in a brick yard fora long time. I would like to get a good gold mine that would be sure to pay me from the start. I want one that will net me about $10,000 a year and if you sell me one I want you to guarantee me that I will: make 310,000 a year out of it. Have the mine all ready for me when I come. I will bring the folks and we will take out the gold ourselves. My woman is a good cook and I_ thought she might bol out the gold Now as to the price, I am willing to want. Miners’ surface rights are to be re- stored. The government, it is semi- ficial, d, will i duce a bill repealing the clause that deprives miners of the surface rights to their claims. Premier Turner is much an- noyed that bia government has been blamed for passing such an obnoxious law. The recommendation came from the committee on mines that was composed of both supporters and opponents of the government ard was thought at the time of its pas- sage by the legislature as a body to be good legislation, but practical ex- perience haa taught the government that it operatea mischievously and will therefore be repealed. Although it was generally agreed that the session of 1897 was tobea short one, all the indications of the present point in the other direction. The fine hand of the monopolist, so apparent in the major- ity of the water power bills, fs dis- tinctly evident in an attempt that is being made to .throttle Hume's amendment inserted last week in the ion of Cities bill—allowing cities power to appropriate fer use within their boundaries.
