I have -been driving since I was a teen-ager and have an excellent driving record. With today's lack of public transportation, how do you sug- gest people like me get to work or other places? Get out your wet noodle, and give yourself a few lashes for saying deaf people shouldn't be permitted to drive. Then try to learn a little more about people with hearing disabilities. Most of us live normal lives and get by quite well. Also, I'm sure we have better-than-average driving records because we make an extra effort to be especially cau- tious. — H.B. in Roanoke, Ill. Dear Roanoke: You are right about the hearing impaired being better-than-average drivers. They are also better- than-average letter writers. I received a ton of mail from peo- ple who were highly critical of my comments. Actually, the most dangerous drivers are teen-agers. This is a matter of record. I offer my apologies to hearing-impaired drivers everywhere. (Now, can put away the wet noodle?) CLUES ACROSS . Nelson —===—— Make better (7) 5. Card game (5) .
