In the Regional District of Central Kootenay, a consultant was hired to help prepare the plan. Some time ago the Stage I report was released. It casentaay. described the existing solid waste manage- ~ ment pecans and identified a number of future options. A public meeting is sched- uled for the Castlegar area at the Fireside Inn at 7 p.m. on June 24, 1992, at which time the consultants are expected to present their Stage II recom- mendations. GT, Recycling and You It is my understanding that this is the last real opportunity for public input prior to final- ization of the plan. : If you miss the public no- tices you could contact the RD- CK office in Nelson to obtain the details. There are a number of good reasons why it would be worth your trouble to attend the mee ‘ Youn may be interested to know the consultants position on whether or not we'll have an incinerator in our area? You may wish to find out whether or not the Ootischenia landfill will become a regional dump site? You may also be interested to know what their recommen- dations are regarding curbside collection programs and home composting incentives? Will we have staffed our un- staffed drop-off centres for re- cyclables? What kind of education pro- will they suggest? What will be their position on the release of freon into the atmosphere? How about their recommen- dations on the dumping of an- tifreeze and sewage mto our landfills? : If you have strong feelings on any of these issues you not want to miss this last op- portunity to have your views heard prior to the plan being fi- nalized. Last but not least, you may wish to ask how much all of this is expected to cost? See you at the meeting. @ Recreation commission invests a little cash in Slocan Valley schools effective.
