Stopping noise with brake chemicals Those squeals and squeaks after the brake job is finished are nothing more than vibration somewhere in the brake system. In addition to cleaning all parts thoroughly and check- ing to see that you have the right anti-rattle clips or brake shims, you can apply a product, such as CRC’s. Disk Brake Quiet, to the backs of the brake pads after cleaning them. Disc Brake Quiet dampens vibration in the disc brake pads. Lubrication assures safe brakes Another way to ensure a trouble-free brake job, say CRC spokesmen, is to spray all linkages and moving parts with a lubricant/ penetrant/ metal protector, such as CRC’s 5-56®. Lubricant/ penetrants like 5-56 will free dirty or tight connections, lubricate the linkage and help prevent rust formation. Your family’s safety may depend on how well you perform your brake work. Do it the right way. Today, manufacturers like CRC Industries provide modern service chemicals to make your brake jobs fast, effec- tive and safe. Winter Driving Tips 1. Increase your tire pres- sure to compensate for cold conditions. A drop of 11 degrees celsius reduces tire pressure by 2 psi. Under- inflation is very hard on tire life and reduces control. 2. Check your tire pressure outside. If you keep your car in a garage, there's no point checking them there. The pressure won't be the same as when you're outside. 3. Store your summer tires properly. If they're left on rims, decrease the pressure to about 50% of their driv- ing pressure and store them flat. Keep them in tire bags and away from grease or other chemicals. 4. Inflate your summer tires before installation. Make a note to re-inflate the tires to the correct pres- sure before you install them next spring. (NC) - Portable computers have dropped the office right into your lap and a new sur- vey from Dell Computer Corporation suggests that out-of-sight, out-of-mind may be a thing of the past. In a random survey of 500 business travelers this summer, Dell found that 58 per cent of people doing business on-the-road are “Techno-Travelers” who use,.a-portable computer to maximize their time away from the office. In fact, more than 61 per cent believe that using a portable computer makes them more productive on business trips. Attitudes value work away from office The practice of using a portable reflects the kind of attitude business profession- als are bringing to their jobs. When asked what they would do on a business flight if given a choice, 91 per cent said that their first choice would be to prepare for theetings or read, with talk- ing or sleeping finishing a distant second and third. Memos, modem and fax ° So what exactly are all these high productivity busi- ness professionals doing with their portable comput- ers when they’re 35,000 feet up in the air? The “Techno- Traveler” survey says 88 per cent use their computers to write memos, with large numbers using their note- book computer to modem documents or fax. Getting ahead means traveling light with maximum power This drive to be productive also has today’s “Techno- Traveler” trying to avoid two serious obstacles to “up- time”. Survey results showed that the weight of a portable and its battery life were two problem areas for “ “Techno- Travelers” who felt held back by the problem of lug- ging a computer around or having the battery die when they needed it most. “People use P on planes and on the farm. From sales calls to conventions they need a computer that is as long lasting and portable as they are,” says Dell Cana- da President, Harvey Cole- man. “It’s part of the thinking behind Dell’s lightweight portables with eight hours of battery life that work in the real world where our cus- tomers need us.” What’s going on up there? ~ Many people see someone using a notebook computer and wonder if that someone isn’t just using it to play games. What other reason would there be for including program we've a seen before. Surprisingly though, only 6 per cent admit using their notebook to play games. But while most don’t play solitaire, the would like to be left alone. The “Techno-Traveler” survey says that 55 per cent would prefer to sit next to an empty seat with only 9 per cent preferring the compa- ny of their boss. Looks like even the productive “Tech- no-Traveler” has limits when it comes to taking the office on-the-road. For more information on the Techno-Traveler survey, call 1-800-839-0143. When the first snow falls, try out your car in an empty parking lot in order to re-acquaint yourself with its winter handling hearacteristics. A few prac- tice runs in a controlled envi- ronment and you'll be ready to avoid the motorist who's driving out of control. 6. When driving on snow or ice, plan your moves only ask your car to do one thing at a time. Braking, steering, accelerating in slippery conditions all require the most from you and your car, so be smooth and keep it simple. 7. If you get stuck and only one wheel is spinning, don't spin too fast. When just one wheel is spinning, the speedometer will only show you 1/2 of the actual speed.
