MEMORANDUM. To : From: Re: The File on School of Creative Woodworking / w. Uegama Date: Mee ting of January 15 January 17, 1975 ~-----(.t_., ~ 0::f M SELKIR K COLLEGE Castlogar, 8. C. On the evening of January 15, Franz Braal, Sandy McElroy and myself met with John Barton at his Workshop and home to further discuss the Proposal to create a School of Decorative or Creative Woodworking. As a result of this meeting, it 3ppears clear that there are a number of tasks which the two major parties, John Barton and Selkirk College, must accomplish in short order: (a) John Barton would continue developing the Workshop and facilities and the concept of the School with the probability that it would go ahead whether affiliated with Selkirk College or not. (b) Secondly, Walte r Uegama is to approach a number of forest product firms and other possible backers of the School of Cr eative Woodworking as alt ernative sources of funding . (This process should start within the next week). (c) John Barton and Walter Uegama should meet to develop a portfolio for presentation of John's skills and philosophy etc. and the conce pt of the school. This portfolio should be a clear and short written section and contain a series of photographs, 8 x 10. (d) The Committee should clearly detail the procedure of strat egy for studying this proposal clearly, with a view to having it readied for presentation to the Curriculum Committee by mid-February at the latest.
