MINOR HOCKEY WEEK Me IA MSOY WHYTE RS VON RS, ly 4 EST ASL Backed by Local Groups By Jack Alouf Feb. 18 through to Feb, 24 will be fitness week In the Castlegar-Kinnaird area, This drive is being spearheaded at the moment by a fitness committee made up of' repre- sentation from the Heart Foundation, the medical pro- fession, Selkirk College and Regional Recreation Commis- sion No. 1. Inspired by the Conference on Health and Physical Fitness held last fall in Vancouver and the fact that February is heart month, our aim is to make people more aware of their physical condition and doing something about it, Information on fitness testing stations being set up for Fitness Week will be publicized over the next few weeks, eo The Robson Recreation Commission will be holding registration for their gymnastic classes next Wednesday at the Robson School. The classes are for students in grades one to six. The Four Shield Progres- sion Program will be in effect for those wishing to be tested. Mrs. Hebe Hackman will be co- ordinating the program. ‘os 8 The men's keep-fit class had a good turnout last week with 21 men in attendance. Physical Fitness Director for Notre Dame University in Nelson, Dr. Tom Song, was on hand to put the group through a series of fitness tests: which proved very interesting. Dr. Song will ‘put the group through ‘the tests again to- wards the end of the course to gauge what kind of progress has been made. Pe ae ees There are some items. of interest from our Community. CURLING By Matt Baldwin Sponsored by TRI-X AUTO BODY AND ENTERPRISES A year or two before that, , they had a rule that. in delivering his stone, the curler must come to a complete stop and step across, the hog line. Big deal. Once a curler has released his rock, what in tarnation good is a rule. insisting that he come toa complete: stop and then step - across the hog line. i e advised that the: ° ly: jog lines <2, rs T asked specifically if they were going.to enforce this rule and I was assured it would be. So then I asked what about the fellow who threw his rock right from the hack and then walked down the ice, following it. If he didn’t come to a complete stop before stepping over the hog line, then he was breaking the rule. i They. said I. was” being facetious, and I was. But I only _ wanted to make it clear just how ridiculous the rule was. I have heard rumors that. .; at last the officials may be on- the right track. Ontario intro- duced legislation last . year. which finally comes to the crux of the matter. They suggest the rule be amended to read: the rock must: be clearly released before. the near hog line. & Now that makes sense, But if you have: released the rock, and your concentra- tion is so great possibly because - of the importance of the’ shot, and your hand or your broom < happens to go over the line by an inch or two, : That's not the spirit of the game.
