Pat Petge said Hansen will leave Nelson at 7 a.m. Friday morning, traveling along Highway 3A. Hansen will stop at Mount Sentinel secondary school in South Slocan at 9:40 a.m. for a brief visit with students and staff. Hansen will not stop at Tarrys elementary school as opifimally planned. Metge said the Tarrys stop was dropped because of lack of time. He said the problem is that school visits are only ‘supposed to take five minutes, but esd up taking 15 to 30 ——_— Hansen's schedule, A4 minutes. Metge suggested the Tarrys students line the highway outside the school and cheer Hansen on. Hansen will wheel along Highway 3A/as far as the Broadwater Road intersection where he will turn off and head toward the Castlegar Robson ferry. He is scheduled to board the ferry from the Robson side at 1:20 p.m. and enter Castlegar on the other side at 1:25 p.m. He will wheel up Columbia Avenue to a civic reception outside Stanley Humphries secondary schopl at 1:35 p.m. / The reception will actually begin at 1 p.m. wifn the preparation for Rick Hansen's Man in Motion vis.t to Castlegar Friday. CosNewsPhoto by Ron Norman Kinnaird Junior secondary school Grade 8 band and the SHSS stage band playing for the crowd. Former CKQR manager Brian Pritchard and Castlegar News editor Ron Norman will be the masters of ceremonies. The SHSS choir will sing one number before Mayor Audrey Moore welcomes Hansen on behalf of the city and proclaims this week Rick Hansen week in Castlegar. Kris Stanbra and Chris Halarewich, two handicap- ped Castlegar residents, will present Hansen with a cheque representing the community's total donations to the Man in Motion trust fund. A Castlegar school district elementary school choir comprised of 200 students will sing the song Chase Your Dream, written by local teacher Bob Bertuzzi especially for Hansen. Hansen will then address the crowd. The elementary choir will sing two other tunes as Hansen leaves the stage and winds his way through the crowd. The whole ceremony is expected to take about a half hour, with Hansen wheeling up 7th Avenue, and down 10th Street past the Castlegar and District Hospital about 2 p.m. He will then roll up Columbia Avenue en route to Genelle, where he will visit a school, and to Trail, where he will stay overnight. Salmo has decided not to join in Castlegar’s ceremonies. Instead, Salma schools took part in ceremonies Tuesday in Nelson and Salmo civic ceremonies will take place in Trail Friday night The Castlegar organizing committee had invited Salmo to join in the Castlegir ceremonies because Hansen did not travel through Salmo.
